my ph1 is due for a timing belt change this year. can anyone recommend someone in the north west area (lancashire) to do the job. alternatively has anyone done it themselves and if so what sort of a job is it? i have changed belts on other cars before.
Rick at Dryclough Lane Garage in Halifax has done a few timing belts in his time. He is also a trained Renault tech with a fine collection of Renault classics. Probably best to give him a phone :approve:
Hi im about 20 minutes away from you and can do the belt and what ever else you need doing /engine out is easiest way ,if you want to do it yourself and want any tips just ask .
Job now done by Neil Hall in Ormskirk Lancs. He is a forum member (recoverysolutions), a Vee owner and very knowledgeable on these cars. It was an engine out job, cambelt kit and water pump went in. Also changed the coils as one had failed recently (luckily one of the easy to get at ones), the auxiliary belt and the crank pulley as the rubber had started to deteriorate. I went across whilst the engine was out and Neil showed me what was involved. Looking at the size and weight of the engine/trans, i am really glad i did not attempt the job myself. With regards to the clutch and starter motor that some people seem to change routinely, i take the view that if it aint broke leave it alone and fix it as and when you need to.
These cars really can be properly looked after without the need for a second mortgage! Cheers Neil.
