the turquoise terror

I have been looking at others for sale recently, at under £1000, and I was surprised to see (today) that non of them have air con, which this one does have, but I need to get it checked to make sure it's ok and re-gassed

This model is a GLX SE apparently, lol

Pfft, lol

The only downside to this at present is the fuel consumption, and yes I know being a 4x4 it was going to be worse than a car, but I didn't think it was gonna be quite as thirsty, lol

I'm hoping that giving it a damn good service will help it a lot, especially as the service items aren't too badly priced.

That pic that had the service items included a rocker cover gasket, which is a rubbery thing which surprised me a bit

current mpg is working out at 24, 3.7 below book at present, do you think a thorough service will bump it up a bit?

was wondering what was the possibilities of converting to diesel? which Mazda engine would fit in? im guessing its a bit more than swapping engine and fuel tank/pump?

probably not tbh.

MPG ratings are done on a rolling road in a cell.

Also the ethanol content in the modern fuels which is approaching naughty levels means less mpg.

As for diesel conversion, it opens all sorts of issues mainly insurance issues. If you want a diesel get one to start with.

Yeah, I appreciate the idea about diesel but they never made one for these so thought it might be unique, lol, however, as I explained to Neal, I'm not overly fussed as I'd rather have something reliable and put more fuel in than something economical but unreliable and always fixing, lol

Still, she's not doing many miles at present so it's not the end of the world

Like I said you will have a real issue insuring it.

It would be unique but by the time you factor in the engine, fuel system, hassle of conversion and possibly having to get a gearbox of of something suitable to allow it to cruise at motorway speeds.

I think it will be handy this winter, maybe keep an eye out for chunky tyres already on wheels.

hhhhmmm............ took the gasket back today to be told they wouldnt refund it, even though i showed them the pics of it and how it doesnt allow it to be tightened down and they still dont want to know as its been opened and had oil on it, despite me saying that how was i to know unless i didnt at least try to fit it?????????? then said i should have gone to a mechanic to check it was gasket before doing the job............. conversation went downhill after that suprisingly

fucking div's

so went round to Kia, told them the story, and they say there is supposed to be a gasket fitted, even though it was sealant on there when i took it off. he then asked what size the R/C bolts are, of course i dont know, i mean how many times do you take something of a car, and ask youself "were these the original bolts/screws"????? so ordered one R/C bolt to see if someone has changed to shorter bolts at some stage, cant see why anyone would go to those lengths to be honest...............

Hmmmm, deffo looks like the wrong gasket for your engine.

It's the type of seal that's meant to sit in a groove like an O-ring. Whereas yours looks like it should take a flat gasket like the 19 16V. Perhaps there were 2 types of rocker cover fitted to these?

Same sort of thing as the F7P R/C and the megane F7R R/C... interchangeable but one has a flat gasket, the other has a rubber seal that sits in a groove.

going to investigate the cover itself more closely i think, im wondering if there is a gasket already in there, that after 15 years of compression has blended in with the head,

being rubber, i too was thinking it went into a groove, its the old sealant thats thrown me tbh
