5 GT Turbo The perfect Renault 5 GTT Spec

Mostly, because I am bored, but I would like to call on the knowledge and experience of you guys for some help.

If I can manage to keep my job in this crazy time of life and keep the 5, I am going to rebuild it. But I want to know what the best setup would be.
It would be great if you could go into detail to help me and hopefully others build up a shopping list.

The only thing I know, is that I will be going 1.8 20v T Engine. but what about the rest.

Currently, I have these thoughts..

Suspension/ setup:
Front: Clio 16v Wishbones, Clio 16v ARB, Adjustable top mounts (Compbrake?), R5GTT Coilovers (Probably Gaz) Clio 16v Hubs (Are these different to the 5?)
Rear: Clio 16v Rear beam

Brakes:
172 Master cylinder and Servo
Manual Bias valve
Discs, pads, callipers = Unsure

Power Steering:
Corsa B power rack, does anybody know if the corsa C rack will work?
Actual Steering rack - Stick with a standard GTT rack if using corsa power rack.

Management:
Really not sure about this and have not done much research yet. I will look into how capable the standard management is before looking at aftermarket.

This is just the start, and all ideas at the moment but really want to know your ideas of a "perfect setup"
I am hoping for around 300hp and hope to use the car for some trackdays.

Suspension: Gaz Shocks are great for a budget, but if this is perfect world, you can do a lot better GpA Clio1 Kit Car Spec for a start. I'd be looking for remote/side mount reservoirs and 4 way adjustment. From what I've read, this is even more important at the rear. Some kind of wide track will help and some roll centre correction. I'd also want to add a bag of caster too. Clio 172 Rear Stub Axles that allow you to use camber/toe shims are a must.

Brakes: Don't need too much extra power, so it's more important to cut unsprung mass for handling. The rear brakes are quite heavy for what they are. Look at what KAD do for classic Minis!

Engine: You can make crazy power from a lot of engines, but how much power will be usable is another question. A F4R renault will make more than enough for a FWD application. Anything above 300-400 bhp will probably result in slower lap times.

Body Shell: These are '80's cars and the shells need to be a bit stiffer. A well designed roll cage that ties in strut towers and rear beam attachments would be worth the extra weight. GRP doors bonnet and boot, maybe even carbon (carbon not essential if not adding strength). Tubular Front subframe with options for suspension tweaks.

Transmission: Sadev ST82-14/17 with plate type LSD.

ECU: Something high with a shit-ton of data logging ability. Emtron/Motec etc.

Lots of other stuff. You could go crazy. Look what Renault did with the lastest RSM GBP72,000 fully spec'd!

Great response. Thanks.

I think around 200/220hp is enough, otherwise you keep wheelspin and need a lsd diff :)

Jesus2, that looked pretty cool! Nice roads/location!
If you’re going to keep the C1J, there’s still a lot you can do with drivability. A decent EFI setup works wonders and you can throw in traction control.

Ruanova are pushing the limits of the 5 and are looking at the deeper design elements to not just replace, but re-engineer.

I’ll be trying to do my part, but time and money are not on my side!

I did a bit of digging on EFI before I decided to convert the 9 Turbo - literally the only downsides are cost and loss of originality.

On anything that isn't a completely original OE minter/collectors car its a no-brainer.

EDIT: I may miss pulling the choke out for cold starts, just because nostalgia.
