The Hussy - 'Renault 5 Van with a little Extra'

Spooky

Administrator
Ladies and gents, may I present the 'Hussy' =D

Picked this up from a friend in Gloucester, couldnt say no after a quick wander round it - it wasnt really a planned purchase as I was looking for something else to fill a gap before I get my Audi early next year.

There is plenty of scope for improvement but the key thing is that she will be my daily, she will be getting good use!

99% GTT running gear up; the engine is OE, has the OE boost control pipework, the breather is plumbed in directly to the telephone hose and she has a totally standard carb. At present she only has a larger alloy intercooler, side exit and pipercross filter...

Future plans are to make it a little more lively - never had any issues with a bigger turbo/front mount/carb tweeks and 20lbs for day to day driving so will be sticking with that sort of formula, I'll include my quaiffed GTT 'box for good measure. I may dabble with the ICE seeing as I've got 4 x 15in JL Audio subwoofers/amps/coaxials/split charger etc gathering dust in the garage ;-)

Most of my focus will be on trying to improve the chassis as many will know from a previous site, I like my car to be rather low, which contrary to popular belief, can be made to work in favour of the handling :)

I'll update when I do something significant, here she is...

Quick update - insured the Hussy as a modified van.
I could have easily gone down the 'its a 1.9D' route but I'm not taking any risks on invalidating the insurance and want everything captured. The initial quotes reflected that for a diesel at £200-300 a year but as 1.4 GTT it crept up somewhat more.

Happy with that, time to play!

Brigsy I gave Greenlight a call when I was doing the rounds, they were not much different than what A Plan were offering me.
My NCB is being used for the 5 but as soon as that policy runs out, A Plan have said they'll do a multi car/van deal - they estimated around £300 for both vehicles but I'll know for sure nearer the time of renewal for the R5.
In regards to tax, I'll be doing the same when the V5 comes back in my name (y)

In the next week -
- The brakes will be getting renovated - all new standard discs/pads/drums/linings etc/brake lines.
- All of the serviceable steering components will be getting replaced.
- May fit the spare coilovers; in 2 minds because the current ride height makes it very unsuspecting - whatever happens the suspension will be getting overhauled.

Not touching the engine/carb, just yet...other than fitting a thermostat ;)

A-Plan were rubbish for me a lot more expensive for some reason. I have my ncb mirrored onto the vans policy too (y)

You will need an engineers report for dvla to change cc's/ / fuel type on the logbook. Its basically a letterheaded bit of paper with engine number on etc. Well it was when i done mine back in 2008:read.gif::D

yes, glad it went to you buddy. though a little upset i didnt follow up and take it myself. though you saved me being murdered by the mrs lol.
