The Cycling Thread

I might replace the exige lights with the halfords ones ...

On a serious note what is the attraction of night riding? and important questions like how do you get back home again once at the end point?
Never done it, new challenge, knowing it's well attended and supported so you're not alone throughout the night although it's now given me the confidence to right at night with the right equipment.

Good fun, but interested to see what 100 miles was like from a completely different perspective. Arrange a lift back with a friend who won't mind picking you up, They have companies that can take you and the bikes back to London, sadly the train company wouldn't cater for bicycles from Ipswich which is the nearest train station to take you back to London so that was out. Some people actually rode back to London on the same route, one bloke did the route then rode 'home'....... Back to Sheffield!

It's the sublime to the ridiculous!

Sooo, as I'm loving the Canyon Grizl that much.... I've decided to buy another Canyon! Well a frame and fork set up with aero bars and carbon seatpost 😁

Welcome the 2018 Canyon Ultimate CF SL

It's probably the worst time to start buying components (demand outstripping supply, waiting lists, Brexit, Covid!) but it's a challenge I'll enjoy over the next few weeks. I've decided on Ultegra R8000 components, thankfully most of it is in stock it's just the shifters and calipers so I'll order what's there. I emailed Canyon about their bar tape and queried a couple of other parts to which they've given me a Garmin out front mount and under bar cable panel free 👌🤷🏻

Ultegra parts incoming, chainset, front and rear mech, bottom bracket and chain.

Was out on the ol' Flanders last weekend for a couple of laid back lunchtime rides, this saw me pass the 2000 mile marker for this year.

So I’ve been wanting to push myself and see if I’ve got the minerals for a long bike ride for ages, but never got the bit between my teeth and got it done… well that changed today, I cycled from Peterborough to Skegness, a total of 64 miles (104km for our European members)

6:00 am I was all packed and ready to go:

It’s true what they say, that the first part of the day is the best. Just as I was leaving home, the sun was loping it’s way into the clear blue sky:

Just before I left Peterborough City Limits I stopped off for a Maccie D’s Breakfast:

After a sausage & egg muffin, it was time to get cracking! The temperature started to rise, so I stopped to take a layer off… unfortunately my Apple Watch decided to have a Sh1t-fit at this moment, and stopped recording the ride, so I had to Re-Start a 2nd recording:

The route I chose went thru all the little fen roads and villages, and I took the chance to get a couple of pictures:

Before too long I was in Boston:

Then soon-after I arrived at Skegness city limits:

Before I rode straight thru the town to the beach. Had a big feck off grin on my face as I was riding thru the town at the sense of achievement!

To celebrate, I had to get a Whippy!!

Then I made my way to the ‘Spoons for a drop of hydration:

Before too long, my dear wife @Millie_Bee arrived in the Meggy to drive me home:

I actually think I could have made a good way back myself, but didn’t want to tempt fate on my first biggie.

So this was the total route:

So back home now and totally pumped at myself for getting it done.. and already wondering where’s next…!!?

Thanks for reading 🚴‍♂️

Well done!! A big feck off grin while riding through the town near the end of ride is why we do it, it's a massive sense of achievement. All the mini Hi's and Lo's culminate to that one moment when you think do you know what that was fecking worth it!

Trust me once you hit the bigger miles it makes the small loops a piece of piss, then you'll be eating the miles up.

Canyon road bike build is building up pace, new carbon wheels picked up today. Road trip and a half to get them but well worth it, managed to win some Ultegra shifters so I now have the whole groupset as of tomorrow when I pick them up.

So less than a week after buying the frame and forks I've managed to source nearly a complete bike. Parts left to buy..... Pedals, different tyres, gear cables, seat, discs.

I'm hoping I'll have everything to hand by the end of next week, then it's build time.

You know what @Ricardo @DaveL485 and anyone else interested… it would make an excellent boys weekend/TR Event to bike there on a Saturday, one too many beers 🍻 on the Saturday night, and then bike home on the Sunday…?

The route is as flat as a witches tit 🧙‍♀️ with NOT ONE HILL so easily achievable if anyone new to this game fancies it..?
