been away for a few months so the car has not been used but before i went away i put a new rad on and all was fine then all of a sudden it started getting to about 3/4 on the temp gauge on about 75ish and it never did it before always sat in the middle then got back drove it and was fine did not do this was very happy then went for a long drive last night and on the motorway just cruising about 70/75mph it was running at the below temp in the pic just below 3/4 when it was 2 degrees outside with heater on warm, heaters are red hot, takes the normal time to warm up?? what is the prob cos its doing my head in as always checking the guage and like i said never did it before it had a new rad and was filled up with fresh antifreeze as i bled it well.

IN THE END JUST NEEDED A NEW EXPANSION BOTTLE CAP BECAUSE FOUND IT WAS LETTING AIR IN, RESULT.

When it gets to around the 12 o'clock position you want to do something - ie. switch off and investigate (not immediately, burns warning) My 1.4RT used to sit in between perfectly, and after I replaced my thermostat it would just sit at cold for a long time, then stay in the middle for ages. After a long time, it sat in the same position you are showing now.

So - normal :)

Replace the thermostat in thermo housing would be my first move. Check for air lock in rad using bleed screw (open coolant cap first). Are you loosing coolant anywhere and what coolant are you using? It could be a blockage. A duff waterpump could lead to higher temps.

Check for leaks.

^^^^ AS Wobba said!! Mine is running about 1/4 on temp gauge at the moment on the motorway 75/80ish!!

I would bleed the system first!! :D

Unless it's running high and getting high temperatures quickly, I wouldn't worry about it

I have nightmares over hot engines due to not really wanting to do my headgasket, in the snow, rain and dark in the street ever again.

If it were me I would be over it with a fine tooth comb, but it's probably somethig simple.

when you cant see through all the heatwaves coming through the vent you worry

does not use any water at all and sometimes does not do it like today 155miles in the middle even at 100mph+ getting thrashed so its weird, might try the thermostat, was thinking maybe the water pumps on its way out??

Possible over cooling from wind chill, bearing in mind if its 2 degress outside its probably going to have a cooling effect of 4 degrees whilst moving so thats quite a cool flow of air over your rad and engine. Temp looks fine to me anyway.
