SURREY ROLLING ROAD SAT 7TH APRIL

V6 2HOT

Active Member
Hi everyone.

Last year spike tried to organise a rolling road day for us but it unfortunately never got off the ground. The boys and girls over at Petrolheads Nirvana have organised one for this coming Sat 7th April. Still plenty of spots available if anyone is interested. I think they have now opened up onto facebook and pistonheads to sign up. I think its £35. Here is a link to the Petrolheads Nirvana thread.

I know two of us off here are going so feel free to join us.

Thanks Nas

It's about 5-10 minutes drive from me...

I'll be there in my Phase I - it's normally a fairly good morning/afternoon out and there's no need to hang around for the whole day. It's looking like quite an interesting list of cars so far.

Never done a rolling road before. Any ideas on what the likely sorry realistic bhp will be? Whoever guesses the closest I will buy them a burger and drink at the Gaydon meet! If it reads 255 then the burger and drink are mine!! Obviously calculated up to what it is at the flywheel! Ph1 owners dont take the piss ;) Taipan will probably guess ...... just the solitary 1 bhp

Surrey rolling road has read high recently from what I've heard (ie 172s with 190bhp after a few simple tweaks) you may see closer too book. I'd guess 248.

Oh man Taipan was the closest! Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!

240.8 BHP

Ginger goblin wins so grudgingly the cow burger and tap water are his.

I want the magical 255!! What do I need to get that extra little bit?
My vee is standard except for the Janspeed group buy exhaust.

Nice meeting you Tim. Hope to see you at Gaydon and I am sure you will pick up plenty of modding tips from the rest of us!! And you can listen to all the different exhausts to help you decide what to go for. It will be a good run out for your vee. :race:

Beer and a burger. Tip top. :)

Still can't get over the sound John's made. Awesome!!

Good to put a face to the forum name Tim. Let me know if you want any more exhaust info mate.

Hi,

Great to meet you both today, had a good morning. Apologies for shooting off early I had some work to do...

My Phase 1 made 207.9, not the greatest figure but doesn't seem way off the mark. Quite glad to have run it before any changes, definitely going to investigate some exhaust options.

And yes, see you at Gaydon!

Beer and burger it is :)

Johns Mustang was incredible!! 592? BHP!! But he is such a modest guy. Legend!

I'll make it a chicken burger so you can have a bite mate ;)

Yeah seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Loved the fact he shipped th car over from the states; that's vee type dedication!!

Tim - not a bad figure for a stock car. Once you've sorted out the flow I'm sure you'll be back up around the 220-25 mark. Anyway, as I learnt from the supercharged S2000 owner who cares what a computer says it's how the car makes you feel that counts!! :approve:

I can eat a beef burger mate! I hate chicken actually! Tim glad you got a stock figure to work from and its a ten year old car. I reckon it just needs a good run out and from what I hear its better to have run the engine for a while so its not done when cold. I did a 70 mile run before I went on the rollers. You should have done a quick lap of the M25 all 117 miles of it! As taipan says a few mods regarding airflow and you will be up near 220 and its about power to weight ratio. The vee we know is not that quick by modern standards but boy the presence of it and the reaction to it and the way it makes you feel to drive a rare car is what its about. If you ever get the chance to do a straight line race with a Ph2 there's nothing in it. Yours even has the rubber strip at the front lucky you! What was the torque curve like on yours Tim? Probably more important! Mine was about 200lbft from 3500 to 6000rpm peaking at 210lbft at 5000rpm. In other words a pretty straight line/curve!

Tim, there's plenty of phase ones who've made 205-210 bhp even with remaps & exhausts etc, a quick search on here and you will find the threads.
I've heard of phase ones putting out under 200bhp. 208 on a 10 year old car is only 10-15 off what it would of done new & on a good day!!

Have you cleaned out your air filter recently? If clogged up that could release a few more horses.

It definitely is all about how the car makes you feel, I had a M Roadster before the V6 which was fair bit quicker but the driver involvement and entertainment was no where near as good as the V6...

Certainly looking to get some more use out of it, possibly some track days in the summer. :race:

My torque curve was fairly straight, peaking at around 3500rpm at just shy of 200lbft, interesting how the phase 1 peaks at a much lower rpm.

It might be to do with the gearbox ratios they are shorter in the Ph2s. I am sure the more technically minded could explain it.

Sounds like a good time was had by all..! No great surprises as far as figures go from what I've gathered from reading previous threads :approve:

Very true... the quest for better RR figures has cost several folk here a lot of hard earned money. But if thats what floats ya boat, who's to criticise? Not me! :-)

Tim,

Did I see you mention you're up for the Renault Sport National meet at Gaydon? :)

Yes I'd be up for it as long as work doesn't get in the way...I won't know 100% until nearer the time but yes put me down for now please :)

Excellent..!! Looks like we'll be hitting that 40+ number!

Looking forward to meeting you and so many others for whom this will be their first v6 meet! [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]
