Right then....

After 2 hours setup on the dyno we finally managed a result!

The totally standard Vee produced 236hp stock and we managed to extract a further 8.4hp and 8-9lbft.

This took some setting up to get a nice increase in torque throughout

The initial map that nev had on the car did give slight gains in torque but only 1hp!!!

The air fuel ratio is now near on perfect for power and i don't think more would be possible

I will scan the graph in ASAP so you can all see the results but IMO the gains are not bad!

I'm sure New will post his feelings on the map when he has had chance to test.

Cheers

Paul

Figures approx what I expected. The truth is in the spread of torque tho and if it comes in earlier.

Get the graphs up quick!

Peter :D

To the untrained eye it looks pretty good. The following jump out at me:

~10BHP more from 3,200 onwards
~10lb/ft more from 2,400 onwards
remap gets same torque at 2,800 as std gets at 3,200.
remap has more torque than the stand map ever gets all the way from 3,200 to 5,200!

But what does Nev think?

Peter, does it spit flames? This is far more important than an extra 10bhp on a car as heavy as a Range Rover.

And where is this place doing the mapping?

Sorry about the delay - gosh the pressure!!

I've only done about 15 miles since the map and some of that has been sat doing 3mph it stupid traffic (I was busy at a bonfire on Sat night and the went to see Russell Brand last night so haven't been in the car much) so you'll have to bare with me for a more detailed take on the map. I guess in general it's a little difficult to feel what an extra 8-9bhp feels like but there's certainly a difference. I have only just really studied the maps myself, but whilst driving on my way to work this morning I was putting it in different gears at different revs and trying to get a feel for any differences. One thing I did feel was what seemed to be a definite pick up around 4,000rpm - and now that I've looked back at the maps this seems to tally with a nice bit of extra torque at that rev range. I think it's probably more noticeable with 'real world driving'. What I mean is that it's easier to pick up on the differences when driving in normal situations (dropping down a gear for overtaking, accelerating on the motorway in 6th gear and so on) rather than braying it from a standing start - everything happens so quick it's harder to notice anything.

Increase in power and torque can only be a good thing, and in my opinion at £245 (around £30 per bhp!) that's pretty good value for money. I'm in the Leeds/Uddersfield/Halifax kind of area, so if anyone wants a 'try before you buy' then give me a PM and we'll sort something out. I'd hate for someone to commit to the map based on my feedback alone (maybe it's all physiological and I'm willing my car to go faster.....that's my get out clause!).

Another thing myself and Paul was talking about would be to arrange a rolling road day at The Racing Line (in Halifax - very nice bunch of guys and they had some pretty special cars in there) where we could book the day at the RR and everyone can test their stock bhp, followed by the remap and another blast on the RR. Be a nice way for everyone to meet up, have a chat whilst Paul is doing the maps and then go for something to eat and a drive afterwards, and even if you aren't wanting to re-map come along anyway, you may change your mind on the day!

Let me know if anyone has any specific questions.

Cheers
Nev

Good post Nev :D :D ,

Are you coming to the "Northern Lakes" meet on the 19th of November :?: I'm sure a couple of us would like to have a chat with you about it

Cheers,

Phill

Can flames be added to the map?!

How many people interested in this are down south? And how many does it need to make it worthwhile for RS Tuning to come down here for the day?

If there are flames then I'm interested.
Leeds!!!!?!!?

Post 108 contains an important nugget of info. Basically if interest in a southern mapping session is big enough then it may pay us to beg Paul to travel south rather than (for example) 5 Vee's drive to Leeds.

Not sure about flames. We need someone to follow Nev when he gets a chance to rag his Vee!

This sort of map in my opinion is just a standard superchips map. You cannot compensate for every individuals driving style with this osr tof map. It doesn't take any account of how you drive, how you apply the throttle, how you change gears, how yo rev etc and in my humble opinion all this map is designed to do is increase peak power/torque however possible not as with a live map adjusted to an individuals driving style to get the utmost out of the engine be that low down, in the midrange or at the top end.

A live map will not give a smooth, linear power curve but like I said before peaks and troughs...

£245 for this is a good deal though

Think my live map is gonna cost about £500 but that includes a lot of down time spent totally customising it...

We'' see...

Fancy explaining why nothing can be compensated for in this "standard superchips map"? Anything is possible with the software we use even to compensate for mods such as a turbo or cams so this is far from a generic off the shelf map. Just to add on a totally standard NASP car there is no way you can customise a map that much. It's just not possible hence getting the best possible throughout the entire range. This is about as far as the map can go with this car and no other mods, the air fuel ratio is near on perfect for power and the ignition is at it's most optimised

Paul

I'm fairly sure this is what I wrote...

"You cannot compensate for every individuals driving style "

nor the natural variations in output between every V6 I may add...

Which is true...you can't unless its a live map...FACT

I wasn't referring to modifications such as filters, exhausts, turbos etc which clearly can be compensated for.

You can customise a map that much. I can ut you in touch with ECC Customs in Lisburn who are doing mine. Its gonna take some time, but essentially they and anyone else should be able to customise a map to suit the driving style of the owner combined with mods.

So if you spend your time doing 0-60 sprints then what use is more midrange power/torque, or like wise if you spend your time cruisng on the motorway and need that extra power in the midrange, then whacking all the extra power above 6000rpm is a bit pointless....

It all depends where you need the extra power and getting 10bhp right across the range is fine but you can get a lot more in other specific places (not everywhere) with a live map.

Hopefully when mine's sorted I can explain this a bit better, but I'm sure you already know this...this is what I have been told.

One more hting the guys doing mine have to get the unlock codes sent through for the Vee. Is this normal?
