sump insides

inside of my old cracked sump (1995 phase 2 16v) there is a black plastic part bolted inside, however it does not fit inside of my spare one?? :?
does anyone know what it is and why it doesn't fit and do i need it?

They are baffles for the oil, there are a few different ones out there so i would get one that matches or one that has the baffles in still.
