Stupidly high idle on the vlaver (2-3k)

Hi, Just turned on the valver for the 1st time in like a month (the donor car) and it's revving it's nuts off to like 2-3k on idle! I checked the speedo cable and pedal to check it wasn't stuck so it's not that.. It was fine last time it was on i'm sure.

Any ideas on what could be up with it? Cheers.

Would it go duff due to lack of use? I might do the ICV, where was that guide on here that showed you how to do it?

edit: yeah bb that's where I checked it.

I don't think lack of use affects them but they are known to have issues.

If you have a multimeter you can measure the resistance values you're getting at various throttle openings to determine whether it's duff or not.

You can also try unplugging it and see if it hunts on idle, if it doesn't I'm guessing it'll be knackered since a correctly working TPS will cause engine to hunt on idle due to the ECU not getting a feed and essentially having to guess throttle openings etc.

I could be talking complete bollocks though! Try your ICV first and if there's still a problem come back.

Ok i'll try that but i've just noticed something very wierd indeed!!!

Right, it's on axle stands at the mo, plus it doesn't have a clutch cable HOWEVER..

When I start it it starts reading 10mph!!! This is in neutral btw!
Also when I got out and the drivers hub is spinning around??

I've probably done something very stupid here but it's definitely in neutral so how the hell is the hub spinning?? When it was running I moved the gearstick and it was in neutral? I'm very very confused.

indeed and will probaly account for the high idle speed! cold start enrichment and motion means more fule thus higher idle speed. Stop the wheels spinning and the revs will drop down some.

ok i'll put it to the ground 1st then, it wasn't behaving this way before though, i'll tap that valve as well. cheers.

Right just lowered it down to the ground and now it won't even turn over grrr, i'm hoping it's the battery so it's now on charge but this is acting strange. It just clicks once and thats it.

Sorted chaps, charged the batt, wirebrushed the terminals, that got it going.

As for the revs, i blipped the throttle a few times and it's settled it. It's kangarooing a bit but i'll change the lambda when the engine gets swapped.

cheers.

 :p

hehe another issue now I think.. What should the oil pressure be on at optimum temperature? Because at idle mine is LOW! it's at like 3mm from the bottom and goes up a bit with revs..

I remember it being sat on 3bar at idle? Anyways all I did was add a bottle of hydraulic lifter treatment, which has worked but surely that isn't the problem?
