hello all
wonder if you kind gents can help me, the car starts and goes mint, but sometimes when the car is moving the stop and battery light flickers intermitently
does any one have an idea what could be wrong......
It could be your alternator on the way out, I had the same problem on my TVR I had before my vee, it was flickering then it stayed on and all power was lost. Also check your connections on the alternator as they could be loose.
Hi mate,
If you do have to foot the bill, try an alternative supplier for the part, I have just had my starter motor replaced, the dealer quoted the best part of £400 for the part alone, I was advised to try CES (Chester Exhaust Supplies) and got the part for £150, a genuine Valeo part, which I believe is standard fit, so as far as I can see you pay a massive premium to get it in a Renault box !
The starter on my phase 1 is common on a number of French 3 litre V6 cars, maybe this is why you can pick it up cheaper, im not sure if the alternator is also a shared part though id of assumed it was?
This link is pretty handy for checking some parts, (click on web catalogue then select the vehicle from the list) you can see photos of the parts, part numbers, linked vehicles , years fitted.
It seems the alternator is also linked to many cars, Citroens, Pugs etc with the 3 litre V6.

got the car back last week it was the alternator, but the garage noticed a wire from the battery was badly worn and corroded due to rubbing the air-con cell so that explains the flickering... think it must be a design fault or something... the garage charged £51 for the new wire and the alternator was covered by the warranty, so thought i would let all you guys know to check the wire it could save you a very expensive garage bill (alternator, starter-motor etc etc) even your car on fire [smilie=icon_cry.gif]
