Steering

There's something that is still annoying me since I got my V6.

The steering seems to have a large dead zone and is quite light. It also feels as if there's not a great deal of feedback from the front wheels when cornering.

Is there a chance my steering is screwed? I think it veers to the left but only slightly.

Also, at the moment, when turning right at full lock, with a slow manuever I get a creacking noise which is dead annoying (it doesn't happen when I turn left.

I took it into Renault last week and they noticed that my powersteering wasn't working as I needed to get a pipe replaced.

Thats now fixed but I'm still not happy with the steering.

They couldn't figure out what the creaking noise was and they wanted me to bring the car back in (due to the snow they couldn't test the car for a road test) but I'm not too sure as Renault charge a bomb for garage work (powersteering cost me £580 :()

Any advice on what I should do? I don't want to take it back to Renault as to be honest I'm well skint now. :(

if your power steering was U.S. you must have taken a tin of spinach before !!!!!!!!!

It is so heavey without the power steering.

Would imagine that the power steering is progressive according to speed etc.

The power steering was still functioning just on the verge of failure, thats what Renault said.

I might just take to kwit fit or whatever and getting the tracking checked.

Has it suddenly happened ?

If so have you bounced off a kerb or hit a pot hole in order to put the alighnment out.

Alignment unless way out would niot give the symtoms you have described.

Have you checked tyre pressures and are yourb tyres bald like me ?

mine creaked when turning right on full lock - someone told me it was a similar problem with 172/182's in that there was something wrong with the top mount on the strut - apparently renault needed to adjust it slightly.

not sure if it was that as i traded the car before getting it sorted.

my steering creaks when turning right on full lock. so does my friends 172!

sounds like a common problem. top suspension strut i think.

check the steering rack is tight!

Whats the best place to get this done? Just a local garage?

Can't go to Renault.

And potholes, damn must have hit about a million them driving about edinburgh. Roads are awful here.

any good garage will do!the steering rack only moves when under load!ie parking.roads are awful in wiltshire aswell even the race track has bumps!!!!how bad is that

mine used to creak on the 172 and it does now, 2 washers sorted the problem. they say the vee as them but it still makes the same noise.
