Sourcing Head Bolts

Hi. Can anyone suggest where I might be able to source a set of head bolts for a 21TXi?

They are M12 x 1.5 x 185, Ext. Torx.

Cheers.

Wouldn't even want to work out postage to you, but more than likely I can get them from my work place but I got them coming up as M12 x 1.50 x 192 for the TXI

Yes, 192 is correct, I measured again (the 185 was to the base of the washer).

I don't think the shipping cost would be a problem, given limited options, so if you could quote me for all-up cost it would be much appreciated.

Guessed wait at 1kg to go to New Zealand and signed for is £17.33 plus cost of bolts. Your looking at around £55 and they have them in stock, but im sure there would be cheaper places out your direction who can get hold of the bolts.

Sounds good. I'm away for a few days, but if you could have a think about the best transaction method (Paypal?), and I'll check in next week. Cheers.

I'm moving to New Zealand (or thats the plan) however if one cannot buy bolts there then there is an issue...

Thats what im thinking, I know there isn't many Renaults over there but would have thought those bolts would fit multiple of cars. Ill check tomorrow see if they fit any other popular cars.

The attitude of the local dealers, in relation to older Renaults, appears to be:

Quote a stupid figure, say it's ex-France, and hope you go away.

True, there are not many Renaults here, far less common than Peugeots.

As an example of how poor the representation has been here, when FA won his first title in 05, I expected to see a big colour ad in the paper on the Monday.

Nothing, nor Tuesday, Wednesday.....completely wasted opportunity. Don't these muppets know why Renault compete in F1? It's not just for the pit babes!

They'll be fine.

If you wish to get into a massive debate about TTY fasteners I'm willing to do so (I like sad things like that).

As long as yours are not damaged and have not stretched well into the upper echelons of plastic deformation they will be fine to re-use.

TTY: torque to yield?

That's most interesting, and contrary to what the Haynes manual says, but I assume you're speaking from experience.

Yes, they are not damaged, and have only been torqued at original assembly AFAIK.

Haynes manual differs from car to car.

Some manufacturers recommend changing every time the bolt is disturbed, others say measure first.

I measure them and in the case of the renaults I generally have a few sets so I can match the lengths, anything else comes in I just re-use them unless they are known to me for causing issues (some hondas and rovers but the bolts are a mile long and corrosion causes issues there).

TTY fasteners are designed to be torqued into the high elastic range, if they are torqued into the plastic range thats them deformed, every heat cycle the engine goes through further stretches them, this will cause them to leak.
