..on a bit of a random b-road thrash, engine playing lovely songs and the passenger window down..gotta love that filter! 8)

when on pops the dreaded emissions light...thinks..hmm..surely not..off it goes again...and car sounds fine..thank god i say!

a mile later...lights flicking...i know whats coming next! the infamous clio v5..for the 2nd time in 6 months..

good job i keep a spare coil, an 8mm socket and a light in the car..

thank heavens it was one of the easy 3..all changed in 10 mins and voila!! 8) 8)

back to renault tomorrow to order the next spare one!

can you really do it in 10 minutes? Does it not take that long to remove the covers? just interested as I too carry a spare, just in case.

how did you manage to find which 1 it was in 10 mins, oh and fix it aswel

i could only check the front 3 at the roadside..

ok..10 mins..here we go..

stop, remove outer and inner engine covers..remove the plastic cover with 3.0L on it..

you will then see the 3 coils at the front (nearest the seat) with the car idling..one by one..remove the clip on each coil, numbers 1 and 2 made it down to running on 4..the 3rd one nearest the drivers seat didnt..time so far about 4-5 mins..remove dodgy coil with torch and 8mm socket..slot in the new one..plug on..fit all covers..drive :)

i was lucky it was one of the front 3, the other 3 take about an hour..the plenum needs moved to get to them and all covers have to be off even the outer ones not a roadside job!!

I'm amazed that Reno allowed such a fragile unit to be placed on the V6 in the first place.

Is there any type of driving style that can make the coil(s) more likely to fail?

Cheers,
D.

there was a suspicion that revving the car too much when cold caused them to go..this is something that i have never done in the 6 months i have owned the car, and still needed 2 so far..

its quite worrying when venturing far from home!!

just change the things for the proper ones and never have a problem - its to much fun to have to live with such an easy to fix problem
