Sluggish 19 16v cabriolet

Yet again my 19 16v bacame very sluggish tonight for a while and then it cleared it's self again, it happened a few nights ago too.

I pulled away from the lights and gave it some in second and when I looked behind it was kind of smokey/un burnt fuel in the headlights of the car behind as if it is over fueling or the spark is becoming weak every so often.

Aslo I was washing it the other week and I left it running, switched it of for 5 mins and it just wouldn't restart at all after several attempts. I had to put it in gear then turn it over on the starter and then it wanted to go?

I'm thinking the flyweel/crankshaft sensor on the top of the box might be on it's way out? Other than that is there anything else it might be? Anyone got any ideas?

New plugs, leads, fuel filter fitted etc, etc, It happens no matter how much fuel I have in too.

Thanks

No change after fitting a brand new TDC sensor then I noticed a screw was missing on my throttle body, also tried adjust my TPS again as mentioned in my other thread... I fitted a new one a while back set it by ear but it's still not 100%.

What would cause the symtoms I am having? A blocked cat maybe? coil/ignition modue? MAP sensor seems ok I have a spare and it runs tha same with either of them, everything else is brand new

It just seems to be very restricted sometimes.

I had something very similar happen to me- turned out to be the throttle position sensor. Perhaps get a voltmeter on the sensor and see what it is doing.

I had an intermittent misfire, engine running very rich, very poor fuel economy, poor idling etc and traced it to the TPS.

With these kind of things it is a process of elimination and ruling out the TPS should be quite straight forward. I suggest that you look at the voltage coming from the TPS throughout the range (not just closed throttle and WOT). Also it would be worth checking the condition of the wiring and connections leading up to the TPS as if this is an intermittent issue it could be caused by a dodgy connection.

I have all them symtoms recently, I have just bought a another throttle body and TPS from a 1.8 16v clio so hopefully this should solve all the problems. Thank you very much for the advice LH16v (y)

you say you fitted a new tps a while ago but its just started to be sluggish? imo i dont think its tps, have you checked the lambda? it sends signals to the ecu for fuelin and if the car is bein sluggish its prob got to much fuel than it can burn, hence the smoke and haze its spittin out, and the lack of power

im alright si, you? just ruiling out tps, my one went at wsr a few years ago, no drop in power but was poppin like fook

Quick up date guy's, I only got 160 miles to a full tank of petrol the other week... I was under the bonnet earlier, took the plug out for the TPS cleaned all the contacts, then cleaned all around it with contact cleaner. I filled up the tank to the top, took it out for a drive and it's running 100 times better than it was. I've done 60 miles of urban driving and its still above the 3/4 mark on the gauge, the throttle pedal feels alot smoother too when pressed and there is no smoke coming out the exhaust :)

I fitted a brand new lambda just over a month ago.

Hopefully I have solved the problem although the TPS isn't correctly set yet, I am still going to try the other throttle body when I get it to see if there is any difference with the TPS set in the factory position.
