Skyline R33 GTR 1997

Replaced my trusty and still sadly missed 300zx back in the summer with a GTR.

Came from what initially looked like a good owner, but as I dug deeper the problems mounted.

Not the cars fault, just stuff getting bodged or missed completetly.

For instance it's full new MOT with one advisory on a re-test was actually 12 fails and 6 advisories!

I knew it wasn't running correctly so it went for a remap, it had been running so lean it's a miracle it hadn't blown up, it's now safely running 446bhp :)

Most of the issues have been resolved now and the car is now the joy I always knew it should be.

It's weird initially as you expect a turbocharged car to have plenty low down torque, but the RB26 is more of a high revving engine, the standard rev limit is 8500!

It's not slow but the power just keeps bulding till it hits 5k rpm then its off like a rocket and keeps pulling to the limiter.

When I got this one remapped I actually got the rev limit lowered to 7500, most people up it to at least 9000, but although the engines will keep revving, this is what kills them.

My car I would happily bounce off the lower rev limiter and not have to worry about blowing the block.

It handles really well, I've stuck on some new coilovers and changed a load of the ropey bushes for poly items, which makes it a tight drive.

Suspension is fully adjustable so can be as hard or soft as you like.

The other thing I'm still getting used to is the way the car adjusts from RWD to 4WD.

Come out a corner and floor it, the car starts to slide, you start correcting it then the power shifts to the front wheels and it does the work for you, still have to be careful though or you will stack it.

The only thing I don't like is the brakes, it's standard Brembos all round and they are ok, but I miss the 8 pots and 340mm discs that the 300zx had, brakes were awesome on that.

Had my R32 GTR for about 18 years now , 47k miles , very original, very mint. Great to drive, drive like rear wheel drive until they lose traction then you drive it like a front bias 4wd car. Takes some getting used to but very enjoyable :0)

Well after searching for 6 months I finally found a second hand Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust.

The exhaust on the car was actually about 3 different exhausts chopped and welded together, terrible.

This thing not only looks great but sounds aggressive as hell, and a fair bit louder :)

I really coudln't do without my lift in the garage, makes this kind of job much easier.

had to be something good for me to let the 300 go, though I still miss it.

I think it might be a while yet for the weather, it's been the most normal Scottish winter for a while, it's been very mild most winters and is forgotten just how cold it always used to be.
