Thought I'd start a thread on one of my Current work projects. (Pic heavy)

A 1973 Porsche 911T

So Originally the Customer (Always right) wanted to keep the patina (paint falling off in this case.) So we started on it with this in mind.

A bit of Bracing.

I Ended up having to Strip it all to a bare shell. After gerting into it I realised it was going to need so much more.

I don't think we have all the panels yet.

The Cost of the panels is unreal, but I still want one!!

Small repair around the rear Torsion bar mount. This panel is supplied for a later model and completely different took 2 days to make it look right and fit the hole.

Some pieces I had to make.

The inner rear 1/4 looking better repaired and cleaned off with a new rear panel fitted. I hate cleaning off spray on seam sealer!!20201117_172822.webp

Lined up the new inner wing, inner and outer sills and the rear 1/4 panel then trial fitted the door. IMG-20210108-WA0004.webpIMG-20210108-WA0003.webpIMG-20210108-WA0001.webp
Gaps aren't looking too bad.

It's all screwed together at the moment taken so much out, I want to make sure it all fits.

Still an enormous amount to do.

Will update as I go.

Looks like the customer can keep the patina after all, once you sweep it all up off the floor and put it in a box!

Definitely something about the old Porsche, doubt many people can walk past one without doing a double take.

Didn’t realise there were that amount of repair panels available, looks like you could near enough build one from scratch....
I Believe you can get everything. But just as a perspective a roof skin is over £5k..

You have made some epic progress since I last saw it @Mark_L def a lovely looking era of 911 but deep pockets needed for that kind of restoration.....

......is it wrong I wondered if the x50 setup would fit :D

Great skills and work on show ;)

That's awesome work, shows if there's value in final car, anything's worth repairing.
Are they Porsche heritage, or whatever they're called, panels?
Think I've seen some of their stuff at NEC, you can almost get anything from Porsche for older models.

Porsche still make a lot of the panels, they're not always model specific, so need some work to make fit or look right. Dansk make a lot of panels too. The inner wings are dank and all the holes are out compared to the genuine wings. We had dansk outer sills but they were out, got genuine and they are better but not as nice as I'd have hoped, got holes to weld up too.

The front wings and rear 1/4 panels came to over £5k I believe. I think he's spent around £14k in panels so far. There's not going to be much original left..

Never been much of an air-cooled fan myself until one of our other customers who has just bought a 1978 3.2 911 and we had it on the rollers and it sounded awesome has a 12 plug head and highly modified for track.

Fan-bloody-tastic!!! 👍👍👍 Keep it coming @Mark_L

Nice that you can still get a load of new panels from Porsche Classic to support this car.. suppose you can when it’s a brand like Porsche and the Cars are worth that much to begin with..?

So a little update on the 911, Finally back on it this month, been around 6 months since I last touched it.

Turned it around and started on the other side.

20211005_130155.jpg

Spent a bit of time fitting up the panels to see how they fit. And primed the insides ready to go.20211008_170237.jpg
20211012_100623.jpg
Had a bit more pitting in the bulkhead than I liked so remade a section of it.
20211012_102318.jpg20211012_154747.jpg
Then fitted the inner wing, lined up and fitted the inner sill and repaired the rear Torsion bar area.
20211006_120330.jpg20211020_114447.jpg20211026_144303.jpg20211026_155556.jpg20211020_154057.jpg
Now the rear 1/4 is all in and checked the door fit, worst part of the whole job is fitting the pattern A posts. 20211026_162930.jpg
So Today I welded in the infill below the rear screen.20211028_105329.jpg

Then some more panels turned up, so tried fitting the new rear bumper corner, centre panel and the original rh bumper corner but the new centre panel doesn't fit!! But the original goes straight on, pattern panels!😭

Tomorrow I'll be fitting the engine lid hinges now I have everything to line it all up. Starting to get to a point where I can see the end. Even though i still have a full floor to fit..

Well what can I say , cracking job . Lots of work though.
Is it a special model , Or a rare car ?
Going to be into it for some serious wedge when it’s done ,
Pity your not closer to me , have a lovely little work shop with your name on it .

Not a special model at all Stu,

Just a std 911T So the base model.

I think he's bought it from the states thinking it would be ok and it was a mess. So he's too deep in now. We reckon £100k for the Resto.. parts etc are just a killer..

There’s a 911 place in the next village to me( Tuthill ) they rally quite a few but by all accounts have really good links for parts and stuff, as they keep bending them .
I do a little bit of digging might be a good contact. Man of your talent might straighten what they Chuck away .

They're actually advertising for people, as are Singer.

But to be honest as much as it would probably be a great place to work, the Travel and pretty much similar money so not worth it for me..

Would be nice if they were closer. Just want to do my own thing now, more building race/track cars etc. Hence my 5..
