Running a bit lumpy...

So the car has been in the garage for about 6 weeks, and has been started a couple of times. But went to move it today and it doesn't sound quite right and feels a bit lumpy like its missing a cylinder !!!

I only moved it to put the battery on charge as it was getting a bit low...

Any thoughts ?????

Would that be just one gone or need to change all of them???? Will it show up on diagnostics???

Only be one.
Disconnect then reconnect one coil at a time, you'll know which one has gone.

It clips on, has to be squeezed or something to clip off, can't remember exactly

As Ed said, coil packs, dont be tempted to run it too long whilst misfiring as the cats and lambdas dont like it. be ultra careful pulling the plugs out as the wires can leave the plug behind. sometimes its easier to remove the coil from the hole to get the plug out. Shitty pugs can be the cause of coil failure as can damp but once its failed and its breached the insulation its toast.

Well, I think I have found the faulty coil and removed it ok. Have ordered 6 from GSF with discount £ 82.00

So just fitted new coil and now working OK.

Is it worth changing them all now and keeping the old ones as spares ??? Will the engine management light go out in due course ???

Yes the engine management light should go out on its own. Usually next time you drive it after 5/10 mins or so.
Personally I’d leave them in and wait for them to fail. it’s not like it’s a serviceable part that needs changing regularly, they just seem to fail from time to time. Generally after the car has been sat unused for a while.

Usually they will fail at the furthest point from home in the dark on a sunday evening when its raining, dont forget your 10 mm socket and torch., Not forgetting you will be going somewhere important in your best clothes. and a passenger!

Not probably what the Renaultsport design remit expected for their GT aspiring Clio V6. Seems odd that the (reliable) original V6 Trophy components didn’t find their way into the road car. I’ve never really ascertained whether the newer coils are any more reliable?

I blame Brexit! if not that do you think it has anything to do with money, certainly the later ones are more reliable as are the ones that dont get as hot, like the ones used on certain 3 cyl motorcycles.
Perhaps the guy who designed them was the same guy that decided where the power steering res would be placed? brilliant move.
