I agree, if you can find a reputable transmission place, I'd be tempted to give it a refurb too. It would be grim to get it fitted and realise its noisy.

Maybe light use is the issue. Mines solid at 60k driven like a toss bag everywhere!

Though your 100% right, would be daft not to have an overhaul/refresh while its off

I done a bit of research on it and read about the diff bearings failing at mileages as low as 5k miles, Bad batch of bearings apparently. A lot have had gearbox rebuilds or swaps in warranty period. Shite gearbox really compared to mk2 ndo which is quite strong.

A friend of mine had his diff rebuilt on a low mileage 275 trophy, I say rebuilt, I mean had a new diff. Crazyness

Apart from the PK4018 code on the box can I tell that its a diff'd box by looking at it? I know the NDO had visual differences on the shaft outputs didnt it? Any tips like that for the PK?

no differences to my knowledge with the shafts. It was just stamped

The diff went on my 275 cup s with 16000 on the clock. They replaced the gearbox. Ifit was the diff couldn't they just replace the LSD?

Depends, swarf from a failed part could have mashed other parts, maybe Renault insisted on a full box as part of the warranty.

Cheaper Labour to pull box, examine and fit new rather than rebuild and still not know that everything else has been checked and double checked.
Also Means Renault know the box has come from the factory correct and there “shouldn’t” be any issues and if there is, they can take it up with that supplier/ factory.

New drop links and anti-rotation links last week, has cured the small knock up front, now drives absolutely perfect.

The LSD box has been stripped, checked, vapour blasted and rebuilt. One bearing race was replaced as a precausion as it wasn't absolutely perfect but everything else was fine. Now back here, waiting for me to get around to fitting it.

£250 inc the vapour blast. He was very complimentary about the quality of the diff in it. It's a place next door to my mates Ian's MOT centre, on the Lakeside trading estate in Redditch. He did my R9 box too. First time I have used him, but came on Ian's recommendation.

Surely you can pick up an OE one for not much more? £250 + £250 fitting = £500. Mine owes me £650 total inc purchase and rebuild.

Plus I like the idea of a shiny new looking vapour blasted casing
