Road going trophy???

RUSSO

New Member
Spotted by a friend on FB at Castle Combe meet over the weekend. He said it's a real trophy driven by a young lad. But a quick check and plate came back a white Renault 1.2 built in 1996 but model 'not available'!!!

Anyone know anything about it?

That poped up on my Facebook yesterday, a guy commented saying that it wasn't a vee.
I'll see if I can find it again.

I found this one.

Bottom one is a well known rep. Top one is definatly a vee. I cant personaly see the point in ringing a Trophy car to use 1.2 I.D markings. I'd put one through an SVA test so it 100% legit.

M2 KTH appears to be Trophy #012. Had a brief chat with the lad, who's father used to own it. Fingers crossed we'll see it at Origine RS in August. ;)

B3 EJY is a replica. There was a build thread on CS if I recall correctly

Would be great to see the Trophy at Origine RS :approve:

Interesting that it is not registered as one........

Indeed, but I am not sure insurance would pay out if the true extent of the 'mods' are not declared in the policy.

Also, is it legal to declare such a car simply as a 'Renault 1.2', possibly implying that it has a 1.2 litre engine?

Cheaper to get an id of 1.2 than shelling out for a v6 I guess. I believe it was originally done for competition reasons, not be an actual road car.

Risky though as of caught driving that on the road they are within their rights to crush it.

I remember it being on pistonheads ~5 years ago. Used to be a Tarmac rally car. Have some pics of it at home. Nice to see it again.

Found the pics from when this was on Pistonheads January 2011.
