RIP no. 237

Jeez what a gutter but I'm glad your okay.

Another one away :( should easily get more than £7.5k send over V6's which are currently for sale

Matt,

That is a crying shame, car looked to be in great condition prior! The important thing is that you walked away to tell the tale with nothing more than a ringing in the ears, says a lot about the strength and safety of the car.
Insurance companies can be absolute b45tards regarding settlements and you will need police info, witness statements and admission of the other party all in writing so that you can start by defending your NCB. First settlement offers will be derisory so refuse them immediately, demand the vehicle is repaired and see what they come back with, next offer tell them to find you a vehicle of comparable or superior condition for the money they are offering, dont take trade guides as proof, tell them to provide you with a suitable replacement. Keep at them as they are very keen to take your money but not so keen to pay out! As this should be against the other party you should fight for full restitution as this was not your fault through you insurance, especially if you have legal cover.

Good luck and don't let them grind you down!!

Firstly sorry to hear of your crash.

Secondly, having recently gone through the process if a total loss here's a few tips for you :

A) Your car will be insured at market value - I.e. the price for you to buy a replacement identical vehicle. Bare this in mind with the below...
B) Your first offer will be based on Glasses guide and would be a price you'd get if trading in the car at a garage. Reject it, it'll be insulting.
C) Collate what examples you can of cars for sale and explain the difference between yours and the vehicle for sale - screen print / physically print them out because adverts might disappear and a link to auto trader/piston heads will become invalid.
D) Dig out any supporting invoices for work completed to also show it was fully maintained.

Above all else don't get sucked into accepting the first or second offer. In our case we finally accepted offer 5 - £1500 over the initial offer. Admittedly ours was a more mainstream vehicle and could provide 7 comparable vehicles to justify our rejection of the initial offers, but stick with it and good luck.

I'll also add that my doing the above meant I got £1k over the price I paid for the vehicle a month earlier and incidentally the value I had initially insured the vehicle at.

Hope that helps :)

Sorry to read about your loss Matt, but as said before it's replaceable but your not. Look on the bright side your here to tell the story.
Best thing you could do is provide your insurance with all the vees for sale as you 'should' be able to replace your car 'like for like' with the payout. Hope you get a quick and reasonable settlement.

Hi Russo,

I'm going to try and salvage your net hook and get it back to you...the thought of someone else getting value out of it after you very kindly helped me doesn't sit well with me!

But thanks for all the helpful information. I've gathered plenty of examples of vee's for sale on this site and pistonheads and will be searching a few other websites.

I have just been contacted and told that I will most likely be offered a 'Glasses' price. But I can submit evidence of examples for private sale to justify my final settlement figure. They said they will contact me again on Tuesday though any settlement figures will be a few weeks away.

I'll keep the thread updated!

Sad news but glad you are ok, lay it on thick with the insurers, rare car, rare colour etc. prices are on the up but insurers have this uncanny knack of reducing the claim down instead of supporting the correct value. i hope it all goes well.

I love your sense of humour mate!! Totally feel for ya and what you have been through but the way you wrote it made me chuckle a little. Probably the fact you're ok is why you can express it that way but hope you get the right money and get another vee ;)

Absolutely devastating, slowly but surely they keep getting rarer and rarer :(

Glad you are all fine yourself and hope it all pans out well with your settlement buddy :)

What colour you fancy next? :approve:
