Ricardo's Renaultsport Kangoo project

good to catch up mate if only briefly. glad it got you home in one piece, was just about to text you. I know you've had an itch for something to tinker on for a while so this will be perfect (y)

And likewise my friend, a big thanks for picking me up at the station I really appreciate it and good to briefly catch up... Oh and that Twingo is badass!! Love it!

As for the Kangoo, I'm looking forward to getting into it 👍

I am glad to hear you got you and the goo home safe and sound. Sorry to hear about the speedo that has never happened to me in the 3.5 years of owning it, but that said it has been sat for a 3 months or so may sort it’s self out with some use. I really hope you get enjoyment out of this little van it’s been used as a daily and has been fabulous but it really does need some TLC now and I will watch with interest to see how you go. I was nice meeting you today too good luck with it all and if I can help in any way in the future please give me a shout.

An absolute pleasure meeting you Paul and thank you for being so helpful, honest and straight forward. Speedo is just one of those things, it just made me laugh on the drive home. That's how I'm approaching this project, to enjoy the experience along the way tinkering on it as and when. I knew what I was getting into and more than happy to get my hands dirty, that was the conversation I was having with Adey the fact I have the Mégane which doesn't need anything doing but half the fun of owning something to mess about with it.

It's a great start, has all the bits on it, it's a case of tweaking and changing things ☺

What’s actually in the back @Ricardo ??? I’m thinking it’s a great machine for your work to replace the old Slaguna and stuff you’ve ran before. Will it become a kind of daily for lugging around weapons of mass construction??

Absolutely nothing, it's empty. It could be, I have a 407 SW for work that I've owned for over 2 years and that has been the workhorse. The van is in no fit state to be used everyday the way it is. Insurance runs out for the 407 in May so one option is to have the van pretty much where I'd like it to be then sell the 407 and use the van.

Popped down to Ashford, stopped off for breakfast in a bagel and latte en route at a diner we went to for a Renaultsport meet a few months back.

Front wheels off and had a nose about, definitely NOT K Tec coilovers as they have damping adjustmemt on the shock top, not silver and his hunch is maybe GAZ.... But no stamps. Also confirmed as 54mm centres so NOT 60mm 182 cup as was mentioned. So it looks like a late 172 was used as a donor as there's no speedo drive in the box but a signal coming off the sensor in the hub. Only 1 sensor mind you as the drivers side is cut so they've tried to use a signal from the passenger side. It all seems intact hub end, no cracks in the ABS ring so Chris is thinking dash clocks?

Second issue, fuel gauge. It uses the 172 sender and float so we swapped out the float for a Kangoo item which is noticeably different... Good. BUT, if anyone has a photo of a Clio 172-182 sender up close it would be appreciated as we think where the top half prongs go into the bottom, half the tabs are broken so effectively the bottom half of the sender is hanging off the springs and sitting too low. The gauge read halfway but when we took the sender out the tank was almost full.

The plan is to get a second hand sender, swap the float to that and drop it in. That's all we could do really today.
