Retro Skype Phone

While working on the house today i got side tracked s i often do when i came across the original two dial phones that were in my house, true old school.

I don't have a phone line here anymore as i have no need for one but i do love the old phones so i decided to convert them to skype phones.

Here's what i did.

Step 1

Get an old phone.

Step 2
i213.photobucket.com_albums_cc63_bncrewceb_phone2.webp
Get a back of wires and electrical tape and crap.

Step 3

There are four wires going to the hand set, the two white ones are audio and the black and red are mic.

Step 4

This is obvious, attach a mic lead with standard jack to the red and black and a headphone lead to the two white ones. Run the wires out the original hole.

Step 5

Talk to people in an old school way.
I was shocked to notice that the sound both mic and ear piece were completely crisp.
Keep it real folks.

I think I'll throw this into the project section, it's the only one i've completed so far...

theyre more plentifull than youd think here jr, i have two (converted ones) here and two more up in my da's place, one of the ones here is beige, uber awesome looking

you said it jay, i really didnt want to get rid of them so i thought tht might be a way to justify them being in the house, the house is several hundred years old and since the refurb has been under way ive been trying to keep an old style country house look about the place

Old phones don't cost too much it depends on their vintage, if their from the 70s and 80s they are pretty cheap and cheerful, however the real old vintage ones 60s and before can cost a shedload! love teh conversion i have one of these beasts layin about!

i can remember my mom and dad having one of those phones when i was a kid , why if you needed to ring 999 was it so far away lol,. 998 shit, start again

im thinking about marketing them mals...

also with those phones i remember in hotels they used put little locks on the dials so you couldnt ring out, then i found out you could dial with the engage button, tap it ten times for zero, eleven times for one and so on

I would definately market them. Try looking at the gadget shop web sites and see how much they go for. Them being original phones as well woukd whump the prices up

We got plenty old phones like that hanging about at work.

Hurrah for working at a phone exchange. Might try converting one.
