Does anyone know how to renew the brake fluid on a clio with ABS?

Looking through haynes it tells you how to bleed the system, and to take care not to let any extra air into the system as it could fook up the ABS...

question is, how do you completely replace the fluid? I heard you shouldn't mix fluid and the old fluid is boiled too :?

how much new fluid do you need too? what type should I go for as well?

i'd buy twice what the system takes and empty the reservior, and bleed the brakes untill the new fluid comes through, probably wrong way of doing it tho :?

Do you have an eazi bleeder? or will you be doing it by pumping the pedal?

Use dot 4 fluid. I wouldn't have though it would matter mixing the fluid as you are bleeding the system you will get rid of the old fluid anyway.

I wouldn't drain the system first as haynes says getting air in the abs unit will knacker it.

According to the manual it says

Bleed brakes in this order..1.NSF 2.OSF 3.NSR 4.OSR

As Justin says just give each line a good flush. The old fluid will be darker, so keep flushing/bleeding till you see nice new fluid ceom through with no air bubbles.

First of all i'd suck out all the fluid in the reservoir and replace it with new stuff then start bleeding, the fluid shouldn't mix too much.

i always thought u ment to start the furthest from the master cynlinder osr, nsr, osf, nsf

thats the way i was taught aswell, but according to the manual its that way :?

I know on some newer cars it should be bled opposite corners as the brake lines work in pairs for example nsr and osf that way if one side of your brakes where to fail you would still have a front a rear brake on opposing side to keep you straight

matt ive got dot 5.1 in my abs system

cant really fault it. I just removed all teh old fluid on recommendation from the RTE at renault romford. Cant fault how it brakes. Just takes a lot longer.

I fully drained it all and replaced with fresh dot5.1.

Used about a litre and a half mate

I would suggest dot 4 personally.

Dot 5.1 is good but you will have to change it more often due to its higher hydroscopic propeties
