On the subject of Renault's past glory days, the Clio 182 Trophy is still one of the best hot hatches according to Pistonheads' readership:

Having driven (and owned) both, I would tend to agree (and voted as such), and that is purely because the 182 Trophy was not much fun and had a terrible ride on all bar narrow, undulating B-roads (and I wanted to use it as a daily driver, but I am sure the same will apply if the GRY was to be used as a daily driver), but what a bargain the 182 Trophy was in its day. :salut: I voted GR Yaris, 182 Trophy and Clio V6. Did anybody else cast their vote? Vote for the best hot hatch of the last 25 years!

Guess we will never see another Renaultsport reaching such heights again. The baton has been passed to Alpine...sans a manual gearbox.

I did spot most of the errors and omissions in the V6 article.

It’s real shame that Renault fell off the wagon from a long period of being king of the hot hatches. Peugeot’s similar fall from grace preceded this.

Obviously, the new A110 is a masterpiece and it does show that Dieppe didn’t lose their touch. They simply focused elsewhere.

The GR Yaris is a real marvel and a deserved winner. It’s WRC namesake is winning all the titles. It’s priced fairly but out-of-reach of the yobbos. Remarkable manufacturers warranty too. Definite future classic.

Indeed Kett, a real shame.

If I had the space I would love to have kept the 182 Trophy, and enjoyed it alongside the GRY.

The Alpine A110 S and R variants are certainly a very worthy successor to the the Renaultsports of the past, and the anything that stops me is the lack of a manual gearbox.

The new A110 R seems to nailed it, albeit at a price...

Sure go ahead, but, for me, having tried out a few, including that of an Alfa Quadrifoglio, I decided that they are not for me from an enjoyment/experience point of view - going fast,yes, but being at one with whatever you are driving and enjoying the experience whilst doing so, no.

My best mate and I have this discussion, he's very I to his dct cars, currently in an f10 M5, before I got the vee I tried loads of modern dct and slushbox performance cars and found them totally unengaging. If I wanted that experience I'd go the whole hog and get a Tesla model 3 performance!
