Depends which flavour you could get your hands on, easiest/cheapest option would be an early carb/ignition lump, but they’ll be rarer now, later ECU type ....starts to get less spanners and brackets and more wiring/what ecu/do you pour money into standalone and throttle bodies.
Are little 16v lumps same bellhousing fit as Cleon/Sierra? If you were to look at an injected lump , may as well throw another handful of valves and another cam in while you’re at it.....just thinking out of norm, everyone wants Gordini , hence that stuff has value, 1.4 16V Mégane in breakers has no value, but depends how much fab you can stomach, and of course whether it’ll bolt to box?
 
So after much procrastination and FB messages to @Adey numbering hundreds I went for it and finally the engine, gear box and rear suspension have now parted ways with the car 😬

Would have been easier if I had realised engine lift was going to hit garage door which left me having to push car forward on front wheels mid lift.

Now just need to strip everything down and clean/paint what is starting ... at the same time clean and tidy the car body.

Another week, another fair amount of time spend online searching for parts (and spending some time trying to get bits for my 5GTT) and not so much progress sorry.

Found a good source of parts for the old car so buying up as much as possible. Also had an eBay win with some old spot lights for £20, just need some love but Cibie ...

Today started stripping the engine and gearbox .. looks like I won't have to use most of these bits so will just be stored for spares ..

Wrestling that on too pallet and axle stands was no joke 😂

So this weekend should get the update on all the bits I need to send north to @Steve Swan to put together the 5 speed gearbox which he will then introduce to a 5GTT motor he handily has kicking about ... once that is done I can drive north, get and education from Steve and leave with the crux of my car.

Counting down the weeks until Image deliver my split rims too
 
Whats the plans engine wise?

That brazed copper pipe turbo oil feed and rewelded manifold looks super pikey. Id defo change a few bits on that setup if refitting the c1j.

Yeah luckily @Steve Swan had played with a 5GTT motor in a R10 in the past and still has the engine ... C1J but set up with R8 cooling. I am moving the fuel tank to the front so can use a stock manifold with the extra space created ... most of this is now going in to storage.
 
Applying the little and often approach to this car ... allows me to afford myself time to figure out exactly what I am doing .. sort of.

This week managed to split the rear end I removed in to its component parts to send up to @Steve Swan, remove the fuel tank and clean the engine bay a little.

Next week hopefully all the parts needed to at least get the 5 speed gearbox built should be with me ... and I am counting the days until my Image wheels arrive 😍
 
Im confused as to why the rotten 21 and totally rotten 9 aren't included? fuck me, @paule78 car and mine added together have less rust in them than either one of those heaps. Rotten 80/90s chod pfft.

Because they wont be death traps when they go back on the road, unlike your hub-braked, servoless skinny tyred death machine where the driver is the primary crumple zone rofl.gifrofl.gifrofl.gif
