Renault 5 turbo 2 resto mod

Hmmm. Why when you are going to all that, use the Renault V6. It's not a great engine, it's bloody heavy and not exactly a horsepower monster. I get Duncan doing it as his project, but to pay that much for it, it would need to be great

Should have made the point that Duncan is also using modern Tech motor and box, which is the primary advantage of this kind of project. I do wonder about the idea that it's going to feel like a lotus.... Maybe, but it will feel like a lotus with a higher centre of gravity, as it is now much taller than it was.

How fricking much, stole my concept and design lol 😂

Also lotus and vx220 engines are not going to really stand out imo - be far better to have in said lotus flavour, not exactly ugly cars and look special already

It's certainly not a 'given' mine will drive like a 'lotus' but should handle well and plenty of scope for fine tuning. Definitely going to be an interesting mix with extra height of 5, hoping weight will be sub ton still not that far off but maybe ends up a fatty lol

The core ingredients are correct but does not mean it will taste fantastic 😆 but might come out perfect 👍

I have worked hard on chassis positioning, setup to avoiding giving myself problems to fix later on, one step at a time mind. Also my own changes of increased 50mm width of pickups all round to allow engine in, meant increasing wheelbase. The % increase changed lotus wheelbase to exactly same mm as recorded GT Turbo......meant to be or just random coincidence.

I also decided against full on turbo 2 maxi kit as mine is a Mk2 5 so not even a proper copy of original, they look epic but trying to be something it just is not and cost going different route

The Mid engined 5's look good, but they're not the greatest handling cars in the world, in fact most of the Rally legends are not nice to drive and are a testament to the Men and Michelle who drove them. I am sure if Jean Ragnotti had driven for any of the other contending teams, he would have been one of the most successful drivers ever, same with Tony Pond, who had to drive some truly awful stuff. I do not posses that level of talent, so prefer sweeter handling things, which are less of a handful. Once a saloon car hammer thrower, always a ..................
