Renault 5 GT Turbo out of hibernation.

Hi all,

Owned my 5 GT Turbo for quite some time, but unfortunately it's been off the road for some years and needs quite a bit of TLC. Just in the process of searching online for anything to do with Renault turbos to give me some inspiration to get the work done. Already seen a number of post on here of engines builds/restoration project, all good stuff.

Cheers 1613511312503_IMG_0866.webpSteve

Hope you get stuck in and the car fires up again soon!
Might be a while before I'm firing it up unfortunately. Also needs some attention to the windscreen area due to rust, which is beyond my capabilities, just started looking for a good body shop that can do the work.

I could look at that. I suppose it depends on location.
Hi Mark,

Is this something that you do for a living, do you run a bodyshop?

I'm based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. I see your in the Midlands?

The rust around the screen seems quite bad and I was looking into finding a replacement scuttle, although I just missed out on one on Ebay.

Thanks

I do classic car restoration for a living. Have done for a long time. I don't have my own bodyshop, but I'm sure I can do it for you.
Although I am in the Midlands so a bit of a distance.

But if you want it done right most people are willing to travel.

I always aim to make it look like it hasn't been done.
Just a few examples

Lets all just take a moment to appreciate the fact this front end was hand crafted from flat sheet.

I don't wanna sound like a groupie or anything but when you find someone in the classic car scene that has proper skill and a passion for the work you gotta grab it with both hands!
Thanks Dave.

Some more of it..IMG_20200123_143039.webpIMG_20200127_154903.webpIMG_20200131_173905.webpIMG-20200715-WA0000.webp

Annoying that he crashed it first race out!!!

Lovin' that Ally body. I went to welding classes about 30 years ago, and one of the guys was making a body for a 750 special. It was all oxy welded with a No1 jet and flux I seem to remember. We all had a go at some scrap bits and managed to make melted scrap. Top work man!

Thanks Steve, this was actually my first attempt of anything of this scale. Not had any instruction or anything, just had to get it done.
