21 Turbo Renault 21 TXE Auto - transmission cooler disconnected? Any other models (manual or auto) fitted with one?

Hello again. Thanks again for your help.

My car has a transmission cooler (basic heat exchanger) that is still connected to the gearbox but is not connected to the radiator.

I cannot see any way in which it was once connected. I wonder if anyone else has come across one and can determine how they might once have been connected.
This is what it looks like; it is mounted next to the battery....? Again, I can't find any reference to it on the catcar.info site? Cheers?

Looks like that ties in to the heater matrix circuit, off the metal pipes that run along the block under the exhaust manifold.

Thank you so very much. Although this appears to be for the later 4 speed unit, your references helped me to look again and find the equivalent parts for the 3 speed, that shows how the pipes should run. I at least know where they connect and may try and recreate them.

I'm a former Renault 11 owner, loved mine. My first car, not a turbo, bought it at 16 for £70. It had electric windows, central locking and other bits - amazing for a B reg.

I am so very very jealous of you TXE Electronic owners! You've both seen our 21's dash. The supplemantary manual for the dash states it is a 'Renault 21 Electronic' but they never badged or sold it as such! No voice synthesiser though Electric front and rear windows, electric heated door mirrors, 6 speaker stereo but a dealer fit sunroof. In the unlikely event you ever wish to part with your Electronic I would be one of the first in the queue. Absolutely love the way the 11 drove. Mine was an oddballl - it had a TXE chassis number (I think - B376...), TXE interior except the instrument binacle, but was registered as a GTL and when I bought it had a TSE engine. This was all in 1997. Thanks for the pic of the cooler - splendid. Which catalogue do you use? Cheers! (PS sorry to hear about your fire DaveL485!)

Your 21 txe auto is probably just as rare In the R21 parts book, (PR1172) there's a speaker, relay & stalk control for the voice synth.. Strange..
That's very nice to hear your view on the 11 .. And yes.. Mine is currently living in the country in France, first time I've been able drive it properly.! The ride, handling and steering are all just lovely..
If there's anything else you need from the book.. Please don't hesitate to ask..

I'm jealous of your 11, I'd like to be spending time in the country in France too!

What you say about the stalk, relay and speaker is fascinating. I've never come across a speaking version yet (though had wondered if that was what the speaker shaped holes under the steering column was for). Videos of the R11 Electronic , R25, Laguna and Safrane all show the car computer speaking but none of the R21. I wonder if any are out there!? It's not in the handbook either. Fascinating. If you have the time, I'd appreciate the details for those in the parts book as it would be interesting to see if they ever turn up.

I'm a big fan of the ride and steering of R11s snd R21s. Love the soft seats and ride - but they still manage to corner on rails...!

The cooler would have been disconnected as they were prone to internal leaks ie coolant into the transmission oil... Renault 11 autos and 5 autos were recalled in the 90's and were replaced under warranty what ever age they were..........

hi, i would like to say hello everyone, i have 1989 11 GTL 1.4 and 1984 11txe electronic. GTL is driving need some small bodywork done and respray but TXE need lot of work to be back on the road. dash is fine, sills need to be replaced, same with upholstery, fuse plate renewed, full body work plus re-spray.

I saw that TXE advertised, I was tempted, but given the projects I have already I decided it was unwise! I am working on my R9 Turbo, it took me three years to put together a new front end setup (headlights, headlight supports, surrounds, grille, bumper, indicators and fog lights). Keep your eye out for parts and grab them as soon as they come up.

Another 11 Electronic . I have a few electronic specific bits if you need , will see how the used fuse boards look.
Also got LCD displays,voice modules, control panels,gearboxes,door cards etc..
So rare now . Great buy
