Renault 21 Electric Fan Failure.

Hi all, I hope you can all help me with a worrying problem. Before I start, I wanna not that I have a Renault 21 1.7 GTS 1992 model, F2N motor with A/C installed, but currently not working, hopefully it will be filled next week.

That is I started noticing when it started to get warmer outside that the electric fan(s) won´t start. We pulled out the switch and measured it with a DMM and measured 0V on all pins :(. So we decided to try feeding the pins directly with 12V from the battery. And it worked just fine, so the problem is not the fans (on one pin, one fan started, on another pin both of em started). So, next step was to check the fuse box. We found the corresponding fuse and measured 12V there, and also constant 12V with the ignition set to off.

So, my question is, should we start taking the dashboard to pieces to trace the voltage? Or is there a common failure known?

Thanks in advance.

If you want more detailed pictures or something like that I can get em with my Canon, I was just lazy and used my mobile.

your engine bay looks so clean, but looks odd without a bit turbo in there!

you might have a break in the cabling somewhere...between the fusebox and switch??

are they hardwired to a switch by standard or was it an aftermarket thought?

hmm.. logically, one of the 3 pins/wires on the switch should be 12V if connecting 12V directly to the two other pins make the fan(s) spin, so I'd think there's a broken wire somewhere.. might be worth trying to feed the 12V with a bypass wire and see if it works?

I had the same problem on my 19, btw.. one of the wires to the switch was broken somewhere between the engine bay fuse/relay box and the switch..

totally unrelated: good to see another dane in here :-)
