The Renault 19 had the early Bosch ABS I think? This is more similar to the modern abs systems. The 21 turbo system differs as there is no vacuum servo, instead a hydraulic pump pressurises the fluid and stores in an accumulator.
Yes very few had the bendix system as it was a add on cost when specing a new car. In my time I have only worked on 2 vehicles with this type of system that I noticed due to an ABS problems.
These idea of a hydraulic servo assistance has returned on the all electric Zoe, but unfortuantly its to intergrated in to the vehicle to allow any adaptions.
don't they have a relay on the board that can't be removed in the scuttle tray and the relay gets water in it and dies.... and bingo.... no brakes
