Removal of rear bumper made easier?

Hi guys!

Just got my rear bumper off to polish the exhaust and it was a real pain in the.
At least the one bolt and nut towards the outside of the wheel on both sides.
Had to buy some new equipment but got it off.

The real struggle was to hold the nut on the underside and then turn the bolt on the overside and to do this with only one hand.

Have any of you, after getting the bumper off, thought of just glueing the nut to the underside so it will be fixed and you dont need to hold it to tighten thee bolt?
If you have done this before, what is your reccomendations to correct glue etc, or do you have any tips?

I'm sorry if I don't explain myself very well but I'll take some pictures of what i mean when I get home to the garage.

I used to use lots of copper ease on the bolts and just do them up hand tight. That way you didn't need any spanners and it was an easy job to take it on and off. Helps if the bolts are clean and not rusty at all too.

Ok here you have the pictures of where the bolt and nut goes.

I tried to find a guide for removal on a PH1 because I saw that the PH2 guide was there.
Removal of the rear bumper is the same on PH1 as PH2 with an exception.
There is an extra bolt and nut location. I'll take another picture for you.

But back to the thing. The access to the bolt furthest out as pictured is really hard.
By gluing the nut to the bumper it might be easier to access it next time. I think I wont tighten it too much when I install the bumper back on the car, just so I can use my fingers to untighten it next time. There are two other nuts and bolts that hold it together, so I don't see the really big problem just hand tightening the bolt.

Thanks for these. Will add a note and photo to the Ph2 rear bumper removal guide so it becomes relevant for Ph1 too.

Don't see an issue gluing the nut to the bumper to make things easier. Apart from getting glue in the nut thread, or it not being straight!

Ok so I took a couple of pictures before I installed the bumper onto the car again.

I found out that gluing the nut could be a good solution, but it is easier to just drop the bolt into the hole and then fiddle with trying to get the nut onto the bolt.

But there are some pictures of where the holes are on the PH1. It's almost the same way as removing a PH2 bumper according to the guide. The green dots in the guide, there are no bolts or screws there. But there is another location which I have taken a picture of.

Im amazed these aren't M6 spire clips already, i'd probably use those rather than glue the nut on. You retain adjust ability for positioning then too.

Would spire clips not affect the joint closing up? I guess that's why nuts are used.

Not noticeably I wouldn't have thought. Thats the idea behind them, used for the same thing on 21 Turbo splitters for example. I keep spire clips 'in stock' so if I take the back bumper off mine i'll try em and report back :)
