Remaining Miles Counter

Hey guys,

Last week my fuel gauge decided that was it and packed in. Since then Rick @ Dryclough has fixed everything up nicely, turned out it wasn't the whole fuel unit, just a wire and connector. New wire, solder etc and all is back to normal.

My only issue is the little thing on the trip computer that says "you have X miles remaining before you need fuel" just flashes asif its saying im empty. Obviously i'm not as i filled the tank on the way home and the needle says so too.

I tried the little stalk reset thing with the ignition where all the dials dance around for you and its sadly not fixed it. Do you think disconnecting the battery will help sort it? If so i'm guessing its under the front beneath the cover.

Other than that i'm out of ideas.

Yes battery is under the front boot tray. You will need your radio code handy if disconnecting the battery.

hmm well battery reset didn't shift it.

Does anybody have any idea's?

Would help if i actually understood how the whole trip computer works.

I would think the trip reading gets information from the petrol tank sender unit, usually a float valve. What I don't understand is.... if the sender unit is working enough to display the amount of petrol on the gauge, yet your trip reading is having issues doing the sums.

Is there any clues in your handbook?

The usual reset I guess you've already done? Press the button on the end of the right stalk 3 times (iirc), that will display mpg. then press the button between the dials to reset the trip. (Of course it takes about 400 metres of driving to calculate things).

One for brainy people I think.

If you hold the button on the end of the stalk, and turn ignition on it makes the dials dance and beep, whilst its doing this you can flick through the display using the stalk button, gives you various information including how many litres of fuel you have left, oil pressure etc.

I also have that remaining miles problem blinking on my 230 for many years already. Tried everything. Resetting/battery whatever. Don't know the solution. :tumble:

Wouldn't be surprised if it's something daft like the memory is full up. Dealer would have to clear it I suppose.

Well that's it. My next car will be a 1954 Mini ;)
More likely a side valve Minor for 54, same age then as the owner!!

We solved these mileage and electric worries by buying a 4CV KLIK

Rear wheel drive. Engine in the back. Lot's of noise when driven fast. :tumble:
