Rear wing help please

One of the daily enquires to the club is asking for details on the "bathroom sealer" used on the rear wings of MK1s (or maybe even MK 2s)

It's a long time since it looked closely at a MK1 but I seem to recall a line of what certainly did resemble silicon sealer on the D posts where the fibreglass panels join the upper body. The MK2 doesn't show this stuff so obviously (perhaps it is just hidden?) either way the guy wants to know how to join the rear panel onto his Vee.

So.... if anyone knows what the sealer is called (perhaps a trade name) I'd be grateful to know and pass it on. Our tech manuals mention "extruding mastic" which sounds useful, but I'm guessing their might be a brand name for this.

Thanks for any insight on this rather different request.

i work with silicone ,dont use it on the car,you would be better using a sealant from some where like autoglass its more flexable and i waterproof, silicone will cause condensation and u cant paint over it.

Tiger seal?

Yes, this stuff is what used by the trade and is very very strong with great sealing properties.

Mk2's dont have the sealant showing due to the car being sprayed after the body panels have been bonded and joints blended.

Mk1's body and panels were sprayed seperately then bonded after.

You wont get any probs with tiger seal used it for years and you can get it in some various colours . normally about £12.50 a tube .
