Re-trimming mkll steering wheel

Hi All

Im on the verge of getting my steering wheel re-trimmed by Royal Steering Wheels, but am a little unsure on what to go with? Endless options, but would like something OEM+

Im thinking a combination of leather and alcantara would be nice...RSW have suggested trimming over the thumb grips as well, but im not sure?
Also like the dotted leather seen on MkIII wheels..

What are peoples thoughts on the 'perfect' mkII steering wheel re-trim?

Really interested in what you decide on as I'm going through the same thought process and have a very similar car :)

My only concern would be the Alcantara fabric can become matted and dirty looking quite quickly due to sweat / grease from your hands.
Have a search for 'Snappy's steering wheels' over on Cliosport if you want to see what the thumbgrips look like trimmed ;)

Seen a few done by Snappy with the perforated leather and top centre band in that look stunning :approve:

Some options RSW had sent me..

last pic an example of a new mkll wheel.

I was just thinking WOW that is a good retrim with the colour match of the leather to the airbag being perfect, lol.

Examples of "snappy's" work. Awesome work.

Looks like 'Snappy' is the man to contact! However, not being a member on cliosport, has anyone one got a contact email or number for him?
Advance thanks.

Can't seem to find any contact details for snappy as most of his work done via PM.

Do you want me to drop him a PM on your behalf for an email address or contact number?

I too can vouch for Snappy's work - he did the wheel on my 182 Trophy:

Excuse the rather low quality image - hope it does show the level of customisation possible.

Thanks for all your input, appreciated. Still cant really decide tho?
Thinking..
As per Dulans Trophy..but
Black band at top
dotted leather thumb grips
alcantara bottom, but plain

Or just 'no.164' at bottom??

Gona ask for Snappy's thoughts in due course.

I had my steering wheel retrimmed by Snappy just before Christmas. Another happy customer. I've just PM'd his contact details.

Hope it helps

Spoken with Andy (Snappy) Great chap!
Latest thoughts are:

Dotted leather top band
Dotted leather thumb grips
Dotted leather lower - no writing or logo
The rest black Nappa - as Andy only does black, as matching the leather to the airbag is a nightmare. Says he's done hundreds like this!
Maybe silver stitch, but want it to be very subtle and OEM+, so may just keep the stitch black

Thoughts?

I went for silver stitch to match the colour of the car and also show the quality of the stitching. Now received glad I went that way rather than black

Loving the 262/500 detail Dulan. Very nice touch. :approve:
Indeed Jon, I like it too. Unlike the Vee, the 182 Trophy does not have a plaque showing its sequence number, which is only found on a sticker affixed to the base of the driver's seat! Given that the seat itself is a Recaro item (i.e. not Renault) I decided to have the sequence number stitched into the steering wheel in a bid to show that the sequence number is part of the car, and to make it stand out better, and it worked! Actually, the wheel looks really good in the flesh. The photograph does not do it justice.

Hmmm, Now Looking At Pics Above Again And Yes, Silver Stitch Could Be The Way Forward.
Pete, I think you will not be disappointed by having the stitching match the body colour, but not sure about having the centre band at 12'clock in black. Matching the leather with the airbag was something I was worried about too, but it does match very well, at least on the 182 Trophy it does.
