This big luxury barge came in for some paint enhancement.

The car went through the usual safe wash and decontamination stages before being brought inside to be clayed and the paint inspected.
I'll jump onto the polishing shots. I was a bit slack with any other photos.

Q.

So while I don't really use either how would you rate v an automated car wash........

DG
Automated car washes are amazing....Not... They damage your paint work just as dad, chemicals strip any paint protection you may have had, the swirling motion will cause swirls, scratches etc... Any contact wash will damage paint.. there is no getting away from it.
Automated machines aren't great at cleaning, they just remove the top layer of dirt... And rub it into your car whilst doing so.

The hand wash guys are bad to, using the same washing buckets/tubs if soapy water for loads of cars, using string chemicals that aren't good for cars (often for use in lorries etc), will remove wax etc, then they dry them in chamois leathers that aren't dirty as fuck (thus rubbing dirt and grit over your car).. then they coat your tyres in cheap tyre shine that sprays off over your paintwork as you drive off.

If haven't cleaned my mini for a good month, it's filthy ATM, but I wouldn't take it to a hand car wash or a machine... My car is not perfect, however under sunlight you can't see many swirls if any, under light conditions you can only see a few swirls, and I would say most of them can be waxed over and hidden.

I wouldn't use the jet blast too much in my opinion. I wash mine regular so sprinkle with the hose as the dirt isn't too deep, then 2 bucket wash.
Saw this RR on your Facebook page, amazing turnaround. It's like a mirror, I bet the paint feels so smooth now.

Fwck it im far from this cleaning godness.......

I will stay with the no wash option and the layers of dirt will save me

So question remains....

What is the best alternative
Automated wash
Jet wash
Pikey hand wash

Thanks bud :) it was super smooth afterwards. The owner couldn't stop stroking the paint, haha!

@Duncan Grier there's pros and cons to each option there.
Automatic car wash - cheap, quick. But dirty nylon brushes pounding the car with harsh chemicals and lots of missed bits.
Hand car wash - these places use strong chemicals too, but can do a more thorough job. Their methods aren't the best and will leave your car at mass of swirls, damaged rubbers and bleached alloy wheels. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.
The petrol station jet wash - the broom will have never been cleaned so a few hundred cars a year worth of brushing mud and grime to rub into your paint work. The traffic film remover can be damaging to the rubbers and plastics.
It depends what you want from it as to which is the best. The least damaging would be a rinse down just using the petrol station jet wash, but it'll never fully clean the car.

ALWAYS wash my Clio, apart from every 3-4 months when I have it foam washed, waxed, sealed etc. I've gone from a one bucket fairy liquid person to a two bucket, good shampoo, mitt, microfibre drying cloth. It really does make the difference, damage to paint is inevitable but if you can limit it by trying to use ok products and techniques in between people like Scratcher giving it a decent going over then it's a good thing.

One technique I tried the other day was laying the drying cloth all over the bodywork and pat drying instead of dragging it all over the panels. What a difference it makes, something I regard and thought I'd give it a go.

Decent products is key.... Always, I wash my car monthly (give or take) ATM due to time restraints, when I clean it's spray per wash, jet wash, 2 buckets method, soft mitt, good soap, rinse off, drying method various to pat dry or swipe (depending on time as patting takes about longer, and the quick detailer after. As I say atm this is 4-6 weekly... In between I just jet wash (water only) at a local petrol station to keep the worst of the dirt off..

In the warmer months/ less dirty months I just use onr method to wash (very quick and easy with good results).

What I am getting at it don't take hours to keep your car clean and looking presentable...A deep clean is an hour max....That's getting all the products resfy, tools out and cleaned up after... Quick wash are 5-20 mins :)
