r5 turbo conversion

hi guys.. ihavejust converted my r5 1.4 tse to a 1.4turbo. an engine transplant.. but the problem is it doesnt want to run.. and when it does run u gta keep the engine above 2000rpm. i have changed the fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay.. as im sure it is overfueling.. because when u remove the relay for thepump the engine runs til it runs out of fuel.

i think part of the problem is the pipe work for the vaccum if i am right.. if people could send me some indepth photos of their vaccumlaayout that would be really helpful thwe ones which goes to the ecu and all differnet parts around the carb to the actuator fuel pressure reg etc.. idonthave a antiperc fan.... also i have noticed that onto the carb u have the top and all 3 pipes blow air.. are they spose to do this.. or arethey spose to suck.. because i thought a carb is spose to suck.. this is at idle

beforei had this problem i didnt have the restrictors in the crankcase breather system and the car ran but real craply.. every since i put them back in itdoesnt run.. this made me think that it was using theextra air and it was like the fuel isnt being regulated.. if any1 could help me i would be really greatful if u have any questions boutwhat ive got just let me know cheers

forgot to add im using standard 1.4 fuel tank where the fuel return pipe on the sender unit is half the size.. i was just thinking it might not be returning fast enough would this sound right?? and would a 5 turbo sender fit a standard fuel tank?

You are right in thinking that the fuel isn't returning to the tank quickly enough,in effect this will be putting more fuel pressure through to the carb.
I would suggest you sort this out first but i couldn't tell you if the GTT sender would fit or not!!! :?

ok well im sure they are the same fitmentas in the haynes manual it says one tool fits all so i guess i just need to buy one and try it if not i will have to buy the set of tanks... i done itbecause most shells are rubbish and i have a rust free shell and fancied a project!

exactly what is a 1.4 tse? what engine was in it? Was it an efi job? if so did you get a gtt pump iof not then its pumping in way to much presure.

right.. it was a 1.4 tse which was a plain carbered c1j engine.. i got a gtt fuel pump and the wiring to it got the brackets for the pump and the fuel lines and ran it down to the front..

right well i decided to remove the pipe which went from the regulator back into the fuel tank.. and put it into a fuel can.. and the car ran lovely.. unti. the can filled up.. so i removed the sender unit cover and the pipe is frickin tiny.. so this must be my problem.. so ive bought a sender unit from CGB Motorsport which is a good site for 5 turbo spares.. ill let u know what happens when it turns up lol:D

ok people it solved the problem but upon boost it judders and a flame comes out the back and the mixture screw is 1 turn from right in.. any ideas also the fuel gauge isnt working correctly any ideas on how to fix these problems

As regards to the judder etc i would suggest you give the carb a good clean out.Use comp air on the jets. sounds like you may have a blockage somewhere!!

No not enough, hence the juddering and back firing. It will judder because of the lack of fuel and backfire when you get a sudden spirt of fuel go through.

Mixture screw will only adjust mixture for Idling and not for actual motoring..
What main jet have you in the carb...?

ok so ive just cleaned my carb out ready to fit on tuesday.. the other thing that makes me think its not the carb is the fact that it drives fine in first gear u can rev all the way up without it juddering. its as soon as u get high revs in 2nd gear.. or low revs in 3,4,5 where it totally cuts out any ideas? could the coil be breaking down? or even the ignition switch or am i missing a sensor... im running a standard r5 gear box so i can use a standard speedo cable..cheers oh and i also used the jets out of my old carb so i put the carb back to standard!
