R5 Turbo 2 for sale at H&H Auctions 9 Dec 09

that car belonged to james jones and was for sale at worl series a few years ago very good condition car as had been worked on then it was around £15500 think theres an ad on raoc website in for sale section. should imagine it will have a few bids as a couple of people have spoken about this car elsewhere. if u wanted a top car this is probally the one to go for if it is still in the condition from when i last saw it its the 8221 version aswell

What is the special 1985 Turbo 2 version with chassis designation 8221?
Apparently to homologate the MAXI 5 Turbo for the World Rally Championship it was necessary to make 20 of the rally version and 200 road versions that incorporated the engine displacement change and an aluminum roof.
These 200 road version cars can be identified by the VIN VF1822100F0010???. And the engine identification number is unique.

Wiso, you seem to missing Michael's point, if it's an 8221 why does it have a chassis number plaque that says 8220, check the link in the first post for pictures on the H&H site.

Additionally, is there any evidence that the road 8221 series was actually any different from the 8220?

Is the road car 8221 different from the 8220 ? Yes and No.

I have VF1822100F0010108. It has an aluminium roof and the engine stroke is 2mm greater giiving me 1432cc, the turbo is different but I cannot tell you in what way. I have a list of the differences, which I won't detail now..however most are to accomodate the increase in crank throw.

So yes it is different. Will you notice any of the differences whilst driving it on the road ? No.

Cheers, Andy

Hi
I have seen two 8221 in France and two in England all had 8220 tags but as i said before the VIN No and ENGINE No are different
i have been told not sure if true but all renault 5 turbos are 8220 even john prices Maxi has 8220 no
The price of the car at auction is cheap compared to the price of a 8221 in france.
Cheers

To clarify this question a little further. The 8221 had the follwoing differences;

Crankshaft - 6001006474 (2mm longer stroke)
Cylinder Head - 7701463479
Head gasket - 6001007451 (2.4mm to retain the compression ratio)
Rocker Adjustment Bolt - 6001007491
Turbo - 6001007448
Rebuild Kit - 7701463486 (Liners, Pistons, Rings,Pins, Seals + Gaskets)
Aluminium Roof

I also have a photocopy of a letter from Renault which satates:

ATTENSTATION

We, Regie Nationale des Usines Renault, certify, that the Renault 5 Turbo 2, type number 8220.00,
with an engne capacity of 1397cc, was temporarily replaced by a Renault 5 Turbo 2, type-number

Those cars were manufactured between September 1984 and March 1985. All cars built since March 1985 are again the Renault 5 Turbo 2, type-number 8220.00 with an engine capacity of 1397cc.
