5 GT Turbo R5 GTT Power Steering conversion

Hi All,
I have embarked on the above project! To fit power steering to my GTT. I have seen this post:
http://turborenault.co.uk/threads/39/page-6#post-8111
But I have questions for anyone that has done this before...
I have bought a Clio Mk I rack...
  1. Did you have to change the rear engine mount as per the above thread?
  2. Did you have to change the steering shaft?
  3. The Clio track rod ends are different. The R5 ones are not compatible (internal vs external threads). OK to fit Clio ones?
I think the answers to all questions is yes. Here's the drawing of the Clio steering shaft:

I have the Clio rack all ready to bolt up (once I have removed the seized track rod ends - grr)! I need to get some pipes made up. Pirtek should do it?? Or Hydraquip? I like the way it was done above - where a fitting was fitted to the bulkhead panel to pass the pipes through but I'm going to have to do it the other side - driver's side. I will probably punch holes through the bulkhead panel.
More photos later...

I'd expect a standard clio rack to be something like 3.5 or 3.75 turns from lock to lock.
I may consider the 182 rack myself, I'll await your update first.

Would you be able to list the thread sizes that you know for the rack fittings?

What about the R19 rear beam? I think they go straight on for a wider track, although no benefit over spacers on the rear.
I'm dropping my rear beam as the trailing arm bushes are goosed but @Prab has offered me a replacement Ph1 11 beam that I can rebuild beforehand, and i'd rather keep the original drum brakes. No idea why though. Weird eh?

The inner track rod ends from the Trafic fit perfectly and are exactly the right length to use the Clio outer TRE's! I don't know why I am so keen to use the 182 outers. I think it's because I bought them already and don't want to waste them.
Here's the link to the eBay item I bought:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141525336479?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
As for the thread specs, the end of the rack is M12x1.0. Where the outer TRE bolts on is M14x1.5
I have also spotted this:

I am still suffering from clearance issues for the hydraulic fitting in the middle of the rack. The rack is in, but the fitting touches the rubber part of the mount. It'll probably be ok but it's slightly less than optimal. Maybe this engine mount will fit/give me more clearance/be modifiable to give more clearance? I won't buy it until I find out if what I have now works in practice or not.
Photo of the inner TRE to follow.

Hah! Sorry - going to use them now ;-)
I've just ordered the inner TRE for the other side.
By the way, they are not for a Trafic, they are for things like this and are Moog Part No. NI-AX-2219:

I should have explained myself better, its the steering rack hydraulic fitting sizes I'm interested in.

As for alternative rear engine mounts there are quite a few options out there.

That's pretty cool! The hydraulic fittings from the valve gear to the rack are M12x1.0.
For the high pressure fluid from the pump I used one of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-AN8-8AN...047?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item53fbf0f0b7
M16x1.5 to AN8 adapter
And I have used one for the pump too. Next challenge is to fit the pump - fitting it inside the scuttle area will be a challenge as there's nothing decent to bolt it to.

I was thinking of that but they are handed and the driver's side scuttle panel is shaped to take a battery already - doesn't use a tray! I was going to try fabricating something that bolts in place a bit like a battery and then bolt the pump to that. Going to use (as they say on "Project Binky") some CAD (Cardboard Aided Design)!

I really need to cut down the pipe for the filler neck too - going to get some rubber pipe of the right diameter and use that to re-join it.

When I did my battery tray re-location, I used an alloy battery tray from evilBay and bolted it down using four RivNuts (if you dont have a RivNut tool, you NEED one right now). I suspect a bracket secured in with RivNuts would be ideal....the RivNuts could also be placed in the bracket for the pump to bolt to.

OK - interesting. Well, the 182 Rack cost me around £30 including postage! Plus two inner track rod ends at £30 and a set of Powerflex bushes was another £20 and new gaiters another 15 or so. So around £110 in total.
Where did you find the Mk 1 bushes?
@DaveL485 - once again, you are the saver of all things that are car related! Great idea for the rivnuts - have just ordered the kit. I have some 2mm steel plate on order too and will use that to construct the necessary brackets with some judicious cutting, bending and welding. Progress photos to follow over the bank holiday weekend (I hope)!
