5 GT Turbo R5 Campus Track Car

So I suppose I unintentionally started the campus track car project yesterday! My son and I removed the engine fitted a spare subframe and lowered suspension (from my GTT) he is going to fit a GTT rear axle to it tomorrow! We are hoping to shoe horn a golf R32 engine in there! I will get some pics up soon! I am already ball deep in the GTT resto and looking at getting the R5 extra van at home to potter about with!!

That would be an amazing nice sound track. How heavy is one out of interest? I drove a mk5 r32 in abit of anger and even with the haldex it was a very nose heavy pig, not sure how much was the chassis or the engine up front.

😂 I have a 2009 Mk5 R32 and absolutely love the sound of it, I have vowed never to get rid of it! It is so much fun! It is now parked up and taking a nap 💤 I have no idea on weights etc, but I am keen to get it in there! I think it would be awesome!! The engineering to make that happen can be worked out 😂😂

Some pics from today!

This was a different approach to the R5 GTT. We found this way to be much easier!

I didn't get any pics of the red subframe back on with lowered springs, I had had enough!!
So I now have 3 R5 1.4 Engines and gearboxes!!! how did i turn into a Renault fanatic?? :)

Oh yeah, that is an original VW air-cooled engine stand stood in the middle!! again, I don't know how I end up with these things!!!

Thanks for reading guys!!

Interesting choice and will certainly sound epic! Love it!

I would look to make a mount to use the oem top mount rather than just a cradle setup as such. The latter was 100% fine on my 1.8 20vt conversion but would use the top also if doing again in a 5. Also used on the tfsi/vx220 along with adapted oem other mounting points and was spot on

Box options on the 1.8t used the 5 speed due to size, you could look at the older octavia 4x4 manual 5 speed if wanting to go 4wd, sure the older golf 4motion is the same smaller 5 speed

Dsg much heavier also

So with the other 5 on a go slow, I decided to drag the old girl round and stripped more bits out of it. I thought I would catch the rust before it eats it alive on the drive. Its a bit of a pain having to push the other 5 out of the garage to get this one in to work on but it has to be done! The rust isn't too bad at all, and the learning from the first 5 is a great help. A different approach to this, only cut the bare minimum out and replace with new metal.

Thoughts on this have changed to a road going car now.
