Your expertise on my new project. I had always
Liked these baby's growing up. I know there not everyone's cup of tea... any how drives spot on and everything works. Electric windows
Sunroof , remote central locking... list goes on.
Has real nice leather seats. It really takes me
Back to the late 80s early 90s when I had r5 turbo and 1.9 205. Even smells the same inside!!.

This one came along its a 92 ph1 and over last few months I've been doing bits and bobs to get it where I Wanted it to be.Started with trying to source The 15' speedline alloys. Wow that
Was a task! Found a set in Italy! Came off a espace!. They Need a refurb but getting them done next week. The 17" alloys on there will be winters. Didn't like them at first but....??

Next was to source some new rear lights as I
Wanted standard r19. My opinion make the rear stand out more! I know I'm gonna get stick for that!! Check last photo. Kept old ones they are blue tinted... just don't like them soz.

Missing a parcel shelf!! Found one brand new in Germany.... oh yeah!! Get in there!

Anyone got any tips on this job ? Never done

welcome to the club. that is a nice find the motor looks the part in the pics. as for the steering check the tracking first was there any advisorys on the last mot for track rod ends ect.

Cheers Roy and adey.

It's last mot was in Jan this year and no advisorys at all which is cool. I've checked year
Before and again none. So I think i will get tracking looked at first, hope it's tie rods pointing the wheels outward rather than rack.
We shall see, I will keep all informed,

could be normal for the car? though it's not like there many others about to drive and compare with. where abouts are you? we have a car show called retro rides gathering in August at shelsley Walsh, would be good to get a 19 16v on the stand of you fancy it?

Good to see another 19!

Cambelt is easy, no particular tricks to it. Bring it down to me in North Somerset and I'll sort you out ;)

The vague steering will 99% sure be the rack mount bushes - part numbers are 7700778304 & 7700662571. Not sure if they are still available from Renault but easy enough to pick up on ebay.

Diesel rack will not fit as the diesel uses hanging engine mounts and the fluid transfer pipes exit out in a different place which will clash with the 16v's rear gearbox mount

Cheers for offer Neal I may poss take you up on that, I work a lot down in your neck of the woods so it could be poss! . I will keep you
Posted on that. I just bought the Haynes manual off eBay and I'm currently giving it a good seeing too!!!!. Aha

Cheers for info on steering rack bushes I will take a look at these in
The week.

Adey cheers for show invite. I will look at my work schedule in Aug
And get a message back .

Cheers all.

cheers Lh16v , much appreciated, I've been looking through an old
Haynes manual but this vid looks a lot easier to understand.

One of the things they don't cover in the video is how to get the correct tension on the belt.

On these engines there is no sprung semi-auto tensioner, you're supposed to use a SEEM device or even a spring gauge (that's how it's shown in the Haynes iirc) to set it.

In practice it's usually done subjectively or like shown in the video but not described, just so that you can twist the belt 90 degrees along the longest run with moderate force (with 'moderate' again being subjective).

It's very easy to make it too tight.
