QuickSilver Straight through exhaust - advice needed!!

Hi Guy's,

I'm after a little bit of advice/help? I may be able to get hold of a full Quicksilver exhaust system as a swap for my current 'standard' system. I am interested but slightly concerned by a few technical aspects.

Will the new exhaust light my dashboard up like a xmas tree?? Is this fixable?
Is the exhaust legal (i've heard they are loud)?
Does anyone else on here have a similar full system??
does it improve performance much??
Will i need to look at fuel mixture etc??

They guy proposing the swap seems genuine but i've had the obvious 'to good to be true reservations'. I'm looking at it /hearing it tonight, but its more the technical aspects i need answers for.

Thanks for reading hope you can help!!

Rob. :s

I'll guess if it's fully de-catted system you will have the emissions light on full time, and there's the obvious MOT issue.

Most on here have just the QS back box.
A full de-catted system is somewhat loud!
Not sure about any performance gains (quite small I should think)
Also no idea about the need for back pressure (one for the techies)

Ive got one and Ive had no issues with it what so ever. The only difference with is that not many cars will shout much louder than a vee and QS combo so you get noticed with it on. The sound track is brilliant but be warned, if its the QS Supersport, it is very noisy.

i've got qs sport box with de cat centre section, it's fridging loud... hey brett..

i'm only near norwich if you fancy a meet up for a listen

also the emisions light will come on but can easily be turned off

mine just passed mot without cats..

Did your emission light come on once you had the decats fitted or while you only had the rear QS silencer? I didnt think the silencer on its own would do anything lol

Thanks for the answers Guys,

I had a look last night, and that was so loud it was untrue. Sounded awesome, but probably a bit too loud for me. I think i'm going to just get myself a back box! Nice to see another Vee locally though, and a very nice example i must say!!

Stevo, if you ever fancy a meet sometime definitly up for it mate, i'm only in Gorleston. Sure we could meet somewhere in the middle.

quicksilver is very boomy inside the cabin, after a long motorway journey it gave me a headache (that was just the sports version, not the super sports).

does sound great from the outside though.

janspeed is quieter, very everyday liveable but still makes a lovely sound.

ddouble,

Yeah i think i'm now going Janspeed route, are these easy to fit?? I think i've heard Kwik fit can do it??!!!

Do you have a full system?? or just the back box??

Thanks Rob

Ive no idea on fitting as i got SG Motorsport to do it for me. I wouldnt trust many people to work on the car though as i know how much of a pain taking the bumper off is, and for peace of mind id rather it was done by someone with experience of the V6.

I Went for the full system, I think its worth doing purely for the weight saving!! Must loose a good 40-50kgs changing from standard, you wouldn’t believe how heavy the manifolds and collector box are.

I think if you decide to go for the full system that you should look into fuel management, ive no direct experience of it myself, but have heard of people running a full system and loosing bhp as it threw the fuelling out.

I had a dastek unichip mapped for the car and together it really opened up the higher rev range, the needle whips round much faster than it used to!!

maybe its just a mind thing, but I swear the car actually feels lighter and more responsive too.

IMO the quicksilver back boxes are the best looking though and changing just the back box is much cheaper than the full system. Its very unlikely you would see any gains from it though.

Yeah, i'm not too worried about performance gains, i'm happy with her just the way she is!!

But i am sick of that pitted, rusty looking backbox.....Its just always there, you clean the car, looks good, look at the back and BANG there it is!! Looks terrible....!!

Thanks for the feedback though, didn't know the bumper was hard to remove!! Got me worried now!!

If your not worried about the gains, I would definitely just get a back box.

I guess it depends on the car, but taking the panels off the car can be a bit of task! From memory there are 14 bolts holding the back bumper on so its time consuming, especially if they have corroded!

Im pretty sure you can change the backbox without removing the bumper, but id rather not have the risk of damaging the bumper.

If full system doens't really give any performance gains and same sound can be achieved with just a back box - why go down the whole route of a full, de-cat system..? This only seems to lead to fuelling problems (expensive piggy back ecu chip to fic) and emissions lights etc?

Am not concerned but just wondering wha tthe benfits are of the full system them? Am currently veyr close to going full system and have spoken to Charlie at Propseed but need to wait a month to have the reddies together but just wondering if its worth all the extra cost etc where could just go back box..?

Sorry to hi-jakc post but just wondering what epoples thoughts are on this?

Thanks

the full system can potentially give you some gains, you just might not get the most of them with the standard map. you would likely see an increase in torque though.

the back box only will give you minimal gains if anything at all.

i think the weight saving alone is possibly the biggest reason to go for the full system. the standard manifolds weigh a tonne.

however, yes you will get the emision light on, it comes on every 300-400 miles, you can turn it off with a clip if that bothers you or just leave it on. It flashes at you if theres a problem so its not an issue really.

Here is my experience with a Porsche (993RS) and I have no doubt it will be similar with the Clio V6:

I had a complete Cargraphic SS sports system fitted to my 993RS (exhaust, manifolds and racing cats etc - cost £5500 plus £400 fitting) and as Duncan said with his V6 the weight of the new exhaust was significantly lighter, and made a big improvement to the handling, as the extra weight of the standard exhaust is right where you don't want it, behind the rear wheels. The upshot of the new sports exhaust was that the car felt smoother and more responsive to drive, but where the real gains became apparent was when I had the engine ECU remapped for the car - i.e a custom chip and a new map dedicated to my engine and exhaust combined. Not only did the car now feel quicker, if also felt even smoother and more responsive, also cleaner/faster to rev. In total I got about an extra 20hp at the flywheel (315hp in total). IMO one goes with the other - if you change the whole exhaust you should go to the trouble of getting a custom map too. My remap cost about £400 and that was back in 2004.

think i am going to go full system, just a bit annoying have to go and spank a grand on getting it chipped to sort out fuelling problmes though! Does anyone know much about Prospeed? Have heard good things but only seem to be a couple of people have them on their Vee's but lots of boys on the Cliosport forum have them and rave about them
