Hi Guys,

Finally got round to ordering my group buy QS Sports exhaust. It's been a couple of months and I'd actually almost forgotten about it!

I've ordered a torx screwdriver set and a set of sockets. (and some silicon grease)

Before I start fitting it on Saturday, can any of you think of anything I have missed / any good tips?

Many thanks,

Phil.

Yes mate you might have to get new exhaust clamps, the ones on my 53 plate were completly seized and the only way to get them off was to snap them off.

Check out the link, it might help you it might not i just remember how pissed off i was when the zorst change was going fine till the clamps came into play. :(

Agreed! had to take a hacksaw to mine, absolutely no way you'll be using the old ones that's for sure!!

You might also want to get some sealing paste, not essential but I put some on anyway.

Again agreed ............. new clamps and exhaust paste :approve:

And may need rubber exhaust hangers as mine were splitting :(

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your input over the last few days by the way!

I finally got round to trying to fit my QS Backbox and had all sorts of troubles from the start. Firstly, I needed to get a smaller rachet to remove various torx screws. Secondly, I really struggled to remove the back bumper!

After finally getting the back bumper off, (which took me about 4 hours) it was getting dark and I also had no clue what to do with the big rubber pieces that seem to hold the exhaust in place. Can anyone advise me as to what I need to do with these rubber clamps?

They do not appear to be split or anything but I just don't want to risk breaking them.

Probably being a total numpty here but I'm just really confused as to how the exhaust now comes off!

(I have read the Wiki by the way but clearly I need more help than that!![smilie=hide.gif])

Many thanks again for your time on this!

Cheers,
Phil.

A up Phil :D

The rubber hangers are held on by a bolt (13mm IIRC) simply undo these
so you can move them to one side and release the exhaust from the hangers.

The exhaust should now only be held on by the clamps at either end.

Now support the heavy exhaust (i used a trolley jack in the centre with a piece of foam so
not to mark it!) before removing the clamps.

I had to cut these off with an angle grinder as they were rusted on and then refit with new ones.

Once the clamps are off, carefully lower the jack and the exhaust should be free. :D :D

Fantastic thanks mateee!

It was pretty frustrating to work all afternoon and not be able to test the new box! At least I'm now able to remove/refit the bumper in about 20 minutes ready for the actual exhuast replacement.

So these clips, are they actually what tightens the rubber clips to the hangers?

Cheers!
Phil.

Hmmm, I found this easy with Jainy's previous knowledge.

All bumber bolts were easily accessible by removing the rear light units though they were a bit fiddly. A 10mm ratchet spanner was the bext tool for the job along with a 10mm spanner to stop the bolt spinning.

The exhaust clamps seemed fine but could have hacksawed them off if needed and I found it easier to remove the clamps first leaving the exhaust haging on the rubbers.

The exhaust should slide off the rubbers easily once it is freely hanging ;-) You can simply push the rubber off the hanger with your thumb - it should be clear which hanger bars to push off as they are the ones without the lip - the lip being designed to stop the rubber coming off easily ...

Glad you got it sorted though - a good DIY job to do.

Martin

If you undo the clamps that hold the exhaust to the rest of the system, and just leave the backbox hanging on the rubber mounts i found it quite easy to just wiggle the backbox free from the mounts. This way youve allready got a grip of the backbox as it comes off eliminating the need to support the backbox when undoing the metal clamps.
:approve:
Saying this i had the back of the car on ramps so i could get right under it and mine was a ktec so it might be different with a qs.

Can you change the backbox with the back bumper still on ??

Yes,just need some carefull manouvering out of the holes. you also need to undo the plastic grills to get to the hangers :D
