I was looking for a nice cheap Diesel to do up... and I spotted a Renault 19 advertised on Donedeal.ie.... I rang the guy, and turned out it was only 20 mins from my house, so my dad and I took a spin up over Christmas to have a look at her.... We got there, and it was covered in moss and hadn't been started in nearly a year..... (never a good sign...) we got inside and she wasn't bad, tidy interior, and all elecs.... even sunroof.... I Jump started it, and it fired 1st attempt with only a light puff of smoke from the tailpipe.... Dad drove it down the road, and she was driving well... just no power, and there was an awful wobble from her..... so I bought her for €70... and we drove her home!

I brought her straight into the garage and started stripping her, and found 90% of the problems straight off... the accelerator mounting was broken, hence the lack of power, fixed that, Changed the timing belt.... that was a hell of an awkward job! then I ordered new Discs and Front shocks on ebay...
I turned my attention to the interior, and electrics.... the sunroof was jamming, so using the tech guide here, I took it out and overhauled it Finding a problem with the switch, I dismantled the drivers window, and found it needed greasing, so sorted that, and got the locks working... the central still isn't working, but thats for another day... the wiring to the bootlid was frayed, so I attacked that, and re-wired it, getting the wiper and demister working along with the foglight...
The parts arrived from ebay, so hammers and all sorts were applied to the discs to remove them (they were VERY BAD) and Dad overhauled the calipers while we were at it, the whole lot was fitted, and we turned to the Shocks, which were removed, and all the bearings renewed and greased as they were well shot, when All that was done, I took her down to my uncles tyre centre and had 2 new tires and the tracking done, along with the 4 wheel balancing... She suddenly was driving like a dream, really smooth and even more power than my old BMW 3 series, so I was delighted with her!!
There's more work to be done on her... Ideally I'd like to renew the rear shocks, and get the Central locking done, and maybe get some of the dings and dents out of her... oh, and get some new switches... and sort out the interior lights... and put some new bulbs in the dash clocks!!
So yea, she's driving... now I've to get it through the NCT... that should be fun!!

When I bought the 19, it came without a Diesel filter, and try as I may, there was no 19 TD scrapped... so My dad disappeared one day, and arrived back with a filter... which fitted and took the pipes perfectly, so we fitted that, and got it all working... (only problem is, it's from a peugeot 306) [IMGR]http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll32/breanoh/Ftagraf0844.jpg[/IMGR] But as you can see, it still appears to fit.....

As I said in a previous post, I broke the key a few weeks ago... so that means another job has to be done on the car, namely I have to rip out the barrel and extract the broken key....
not a fun job....
I'd also love to eventually get around to sorting out some of the dings, dents and rust on the body...... and maybe sorting out the fact that the elec mirrors don't work... and sorting that rubber trim:
I think that's what's stopping my window working properly.....
But here's a few pics (as requested)

Rust on the joint... and a screw holding on the diesel flap......

A nice dent in the bootlid someone reversed her into a pole in a former life....

Something out of line on the passenger side door....

Wing and bumper have seen better days

An interior only Renault could make

The 1.9TD engine really fills the bay! lol

The intercooler, that sits in the wheelarch... just behind the drivers side foglight......
[BREAK=update2]
After a few days at home with my master mechanic father, I managed to take out the ignition barrel, and after alot of fun with picks, we managed to get the broken key out, so off I went to the locksmith to get some copies cut.
When I got home I was able to re-assemble the car, and I decided to free up the door locks, with some GT spray and a bit of patience.... this paid off when the passenger side door started locking on the central locking system, so I took the plunge and removed the door cards and went playing at the electrics..... after alot more spray and some filing of corroded connectors, I now have 4 doors and a boot that are locking on the key, and the internal switch.....
Next up is to try to get the origional radio, working again, and sort out some of the interior niggles, and of course get the drivers window working.....
I might even wash her!!!
So after a few more jobs, and a good wash, I've finally decided I'm gonna have to part with this beast.... she's a good project with most of the work done to her, but I just can't afford to get her right for test..... It needs new rear shocks, and a drivers window rubber, and a weld to the exhaust.... and an indicator switch (the main beam function randomly stopped working) so I'm either gonna sell her, or scrap her.... and get something a bit more manageable.... anyone interested can PM me....
