power upgrade???

Is there any gain in power when instaling a induction kit/replacment air filter and "free flow" exhaust on the r 19 16v ph 1?
Why I ask this question is because on the renault tuning finland(www.rtf.fi) web site they say that these parts infact reduse the power output.
any thoghts?

iirc someone on here was told by Nick Hill at a rolling road day that in actual fact the original airbox just with a performance filter in was the best option for power.

However, I like the sound of my K&N ;)

An exhaust pipe without the catalytic converter in it will be more powerful.

that would be me, i had the car rolling roaded and yes was told to ditch the induction kit and use the standard airbox with a performance filter.

Cone filters give better mid range performance, as do free flow exhausts, but with that you lose some bottom end power i.e. below 3k revs.

If I had a standard air box for my Coupe I would fit it back and use a k&n panel filter

If you do go for an open cone, beware which you purchase. I swapped my K&N for some cheap blue one (its was pretty and bigger) however there was a noticable drop in fuel economy. It sounds better though and no noticable performance change between the 2.

Often the open cone design means hot air can often get sucked in, which as you know is not as good as cold air. The cone does give a much better sound though

fit an IK one of the best mods for a 19 thats with extensive testing in regards to economy, power and noise

also neos bullcrap from hill power is terribly humourous.
