Phase 2 front ball joints

Hi guys.

Really struggling with this, parts discontinued as you know and have no idea where I can source some of even some similar which can be modified. Tried everyone, including SG Motorsport, renparts, Renault parts direct, Renault themselves. Nobody can get hold of them!

Urgently require help or ideas please!

I spoke to SG about this issue.

So far, none of his regular customers' Vees have had one go...

...but he plans to find an engineered solution when the problem lands on his doorstep.

I guess that doesn't help folks who don't/can't use his in-house professional services.

When you consider how uncommon it is for them to go in comparison to a typical Clio, Renault must have made a very small batch of them if they are no longer available.

Presently machining a block to take a rose joint to replace balljoints, should be done in next few weeks along with all other bits needed.

When I spoke to Scott earlier he did say he's only replaced about 5 since he's been doing it... And has no idea what he would do at present. Unfortunately a 4/5 hour drive isn't really practical when he doesn't know what he could do yet!

Since a lot of vee's are only floating around the 30k -40k miles mark I have a feeling some will be coming up soon ;)

Sounds good Simon! My friend works for a BMW racing team so I've got them looking at an engineering solution aswell!

^^^In that case: He must have meant that he hadn't come across any cases which he couldn't resolve.
Given the parts are no longer available, we certainly need a solution.
I'm guessing that it would be possible to recondition the unit by expertly pressing a 'new ball' into the existing housing.

Hats off to Mr Hope aka Rustedandrotten because (as custodians) we need to future-proof the marque.

Note to Administrators: Honorary membership surely must beckon to those who fabricate 'not for profit' solutions to impending parts supply conundrums.

Yeh I think at the time parts were also available and a few of those were also phase ones which is a different kettle!

I've been told I could also easily have some rose joint arms made which would be a lot more durable but mentioned they may be a bit noisier? Whether you would notice this I don't know.

Haha agree on that although I won't have vee ownership for much longer, it's looking more likely that some of you will encounter supply issues aswell!

Cheers for the help I'll let you know how I get on and what solution is chosen!

When we stress loaded the cad model, the rose joint was equally strong, main benefit is that only need one block as it can be flipped to change side, will be back shortly once I have produced a prototype as this will be CNC programmed and made we need to get this bit right from the start :approve:

I was chatting to rustedandrotten about this and I was going to approach the guy thats reproduced stuff for the 21 Turbo (Including steering arm balljoints), to make replicas... http://www.mespiecesauto.com/categorie- ... et-quadra/ as well as track down a knackered balljoint to see if we could replicate with a rose joint.

My progress in the first week: Sent an email
His progress in the first week: Tracked down an old balljoint, started CAD design of a rose joint holder

So yeah. He wins this round LOL

To be honest, I haven't found anything yet thats completely un-solvable as regards parts, granted they may not be perfect OE replicas but with a liberal application of thought, research and cash we ("the scene") can fix most things. These were good... 21 Quadra rear brake discs machined for me by TTV (group buy, five pairs @ £230/pair) and collaboration with a French chap who is replicating 21 Turbo indicator lenses at €140/pair....he needed fifty pairs ordered to make it viable....and got them!

Also just found a guy making front and rear jacking point copies for a 5GTT, he's now developing copies of 21 Turbo ones for us too :)

I'm going through it right now as we speak spent a whole week ringing round with no answers, mines failed it's mot and is just sitting in my garage going nowhere

I did also muse over the option of making a plain steel adapter for the wishbone to a shorter balljoint, so a thing that bolts to the wishbone and then bolts to something like this Laguna item.

Simons rose joint would be a better solution though!

Hello,

I think i can get 1 new right Ball joint for a Phase 2 (6020011533) which can easy modified to a left side with a additional hole.

Regards

Left and right joints are the same, as you note it is only where the hole is drilled that is different so you could if very careful drill out the blanked area :approve:

Wowsers, thats horrific! Is that the douglas valley breaker chap?

Yes mate it us the black one, he obviously knows how hard they are to find and wants to cash in but my issue is that his have been on as long as mine and I don't want to spend 400 quid on something that should cost 20 and then it goes again on me
