Phase 1 Need help

Hi Guys,

I just bought a Phase 1 Clio V6. However there is some minor problem i need help with if theres anyone that can help, much appreciated.

1. The Rear Brake Light is not working when i step the brake pedal, i havent checked the fuse yet but will do.

2. My Rear Boot is stuck. I cant open it from the outside, usually the button is on the Renault Logo. It seems kinda stuck. Anyone know what happen and what can i do to open the boot?

3. My front suspension is abit weird, when i corner hard it will rub the inner wheel arch. Is it common? Or my suspension failed already? Or when have more load on the front such as two passenger when i corner it will rub the place above the tire.

Much appreciated if anyone can help. THanks

Perhaps you need a fuse, a new bulb or a brake light switch.
The bulb holder is corroded?

Some info in this topic about the boot lock. LINK

Wrong size tyres or wheels?
Wheel arch has come lose?
Does your car have coil over suspension? has it been lowered too much?

How do you fit 2 passengers in the car?

There is a lever albeit a tiny one that you actuate on back of the book lid and you may have to open up the door skin that covers it. You also need very small hands and a person to clamber over the engine. I didn't change mine I got my mechanic to do it but I had the same problem as you did. The part number of the lock mechanism can be found in this post.

Mine does that too when cornering hard and now it doesn't do that any more cos I replaced the top mounts. The parts you need are in this post but Renault quietly changed dimension of one of the metal washers/ring in the top mount. Do a search in the forum and you will see that some kind ppl had posted a picture showing the differences between the old and new top mounts.

Two passengers not a problem

Hi,

1. i think i will get it sort out. this one shouldnt be major problem. havent had it inspected.

2. As for the boot. thanks for the parts number all those. But the problem is how do i open the boot now? Because the engine is behind how do i open it from the inside? Is there any handle which i can open the boot from the inside? How do i open the door skin? the engine cover block it. How to access to it?

3. As for the top mount, i had it change on both front and rear. but then i worry that they might install it wrongly. So i will get it check as well.

I mean two ppl inside the car, not two passenger. typo sorry

Thanks alot for the info. If i need any additional help will consult you guys. Thank you so much

Hi Guys,

2. For the suspension, its the suspension bush that spoilt thats why the tyre will hit the inner wheel arch. My mech told me the bush is universal so shouldnt be a problem. Hopefully after changing the bush will solve the problem.

3. As for the rear boot, its the rear boot lock mechanism that spoilt...boot lock mechanism is 8200060917 and cost c. £39 plus VAT (i got this info from another topic, may i know where can i buy the mechanism where the seller can ship oversea? Because i am located in Malaysia)

And also for the engine oil, We need 6 quartz right? Is 5w40 ok? I am mainly in summer weather, or need to use heavier oil? Is redline ok?

As for the manual trans oil, i saw in the knowledge forum that we need around 2.3l, and the weight must be 75-80 right? The brand doesnt matter as long as the spec is the same is it? is it compulsory to change to seal? Gearbox sump seal: 7703062062
Filling bung seal: 8200201381

And also may i know the part number for the oil filer and usually how much it cost?

Thanks alot guys, really appreciate the help. This forum has been really helpful. Not much info on the car as in Malaysia there is only 2 phase one on the road and there is no phase 2

The failed boot issue is very common and is the solenoid on the back of the boot switch. I have had 2 fail on the Trophy. Had to go inside the boot and take the tailgate plastic off and flick the down rod to release the boot and then swap. Not sure how easy it will be on a vee as you have the engine cover in situ (sorry).

I live in Hong Kong which is hot like Malaysia

I use Fuchs / Silkolene pro s 5w40 which is the best oil in my opinion

As for gearbox the general consensus is that this must be ELF and per the picture in the link not any other brand

Maybe OPIE oils sell the gearbox oil if not your Renault Dealer though they wont be cheap

Ohh ok ok, So u are saying i must use ELF as indicated in the picture right?

What about the brake fluid, i was planning to change to ATE Super Racing Blue Dot 4 brake fluid. is it ok? Or Motul RBF600 would be a better choice?

And also, the car is year 2001 and mileage is around 7000 miles, do u think its necessary to change the Power steering fluid? Or is there any other things i need to change.

For now my plan is to change the Engine Oil, Gearbox Oil and Brake Oil. Any recommendation is much appreciated.

And also, i saw in the knowledge base that the cambelt kit need to be changed every 5 years or 70k miles. The car is more than 10 years already without replacing the cambelt before. do u think its advisable to change it? do i need to change the water pump together? What about the alternator belt etc etc?

It is low mileage, but as the car is 10 years old I would change ALL the belts and water pump. A guide price of £1,200.00 in UK for all of it. You would also consider a coolant change. (15 litres of type D)

What about the power steering fluid? what kind of power steering fluid the clio v6 use?

As for the brake fluid, is it better to use ATE Super Racing Blue or Motul RBF600 or any other recommendation?

I generally use this guy (Wolf Imports) to source parts for my vee. He is not the cheapest but he usually tries his best to price match and I find usually the freight cost takes up a substantial portion of the final amount. WONGY also from HK but he uses a bulk delivery method from UK to HK and I am not sure whether he has to pay VAT first.
