Phase 1 Need help

Thanks guys for the help. Got most of the information i need. Already emailed k-tec racing for parts enquiry as they do international shipping.

Hi Guys,

I have some more enquiries,

1. The car run around 8000 miles but is more than 10 years old so i am changing the cambelt. I am getting K-tec Powergrip cambelt kit. Is it ok?

2. And also beside the cambelt, is there any other belt i need to change? such as the Alternator belt? Please advice

Thanks alot guys, really really appreciate your help

Regards

I've got a K-tec cambelt kit fitted, went on with engine in place, never had a problem ( touch wood :) )

what about the alternator belt? do i need to replace it? is there any other belt that i need to replace?

and also for the spacer can i use it? will it improve or detoriorate the handling of the car? most important will it rub?

You need to replace the cambelt as a kit e..g belt, tensioners

Then water pump if the engine is out and may want to consider the clutch although the mileage is very low

You should also look at changing the auxiliarly belt and pulley, plus get the crankshaft bolt because they can stretch

Get a list of part numbers and I can try get a price from a contact in UK who is a supplier e.g. lock above is 34.12 and believe that they do not charge 20% VAT because its outside of the EU. Shipping is usually 3-5 days air courier

I'm not sure if they can ship oil though for the gearbox - means you have to go to the dealer for that - but can ask

Spacers at the front on mine are 10MM but only rub with full lock on - in my opinion worth it because makes the car look better. However, think Eibach no longer sell them so you'll need to search on the forum for alternative manufacturers

Never used K-Tec so cant comment

However, I would think since they are Renault experts they should be able to advice what belts and bolt is required without a part number e.g. i believe they do the cambelt service repair on Clio V6 in England

Hi guys,

For the MTF u guys recommend the ELF 75-80. But i check it is Semi Synthetic

Redline also got come out 75-80 which is fully synthetic, any of you guys use Redline MTF before? Since the weight is the same and it is fully synthetic as compared to elf semi synthetic. Shouldnt it be better?

Cotton: non-synthetic
Cotton mix: semi-synthetic
Nylon: synthetic

Different materials suit different situations. I'd stick with the professional advice.

ok understood. But just wanna know has anyone here use redline? or u all stick to ELF MTF?

not that i want to be hard headed and insist on other brand of MTF but its just abit hard to find ELF MTF here in Malaysia...

If it's hard to source then I'd go with a match.

I haven't heard of any engines packing up - which is bizarre given some are driven hard and are getting on a bit. I don't think oil brand is a massive concern.

Put it this way my gearbox was filled with the equivalent oil to elf and soon after the diff whined meaning replacement gearbox

So if you're going with anything other than what's recommended - I'd suggest you ask ktec to order you a new gearbox too :)

Can't be that difficult to get the oil from the dealer ?

Sorry Sky - I didn't realise you were asking about gearbox oil. Different situation I'm afraid, as the gearboxes are weak. I think you'll need to search the site and glean what you can from the historical discussions...
Or better still - call Scott at SGM for his opinion (ask the expert).

Stick with the Elf oil, it is what the box was designed to use, saving a couple of quid a litre is not worth the risk of a replacement box! I am sure that Opie oils, or other reputable suppliers, will be able to get the right oil out to you without too much difficulty, that is assuming that you can't source via your local Renault agents who should have ready access to Elf oils.

alright. understood guys. thanks for the advice. i guess i should definitely stick to elf gearbox oil.

its not that its difficult. just that because i am located in malaysia. everything that i order need to be sent in here overseas which will take ages.

once again thank you guys for the help. i think i will just proceed with the order from k-tec. or you guys have any other recommended seller to buy from which is willing to do oversea sales?
