Phase 1 Mars Red 416 Not For Sale

SALE CANCELLED DUE TO RENEWED LOVE!
I’ve decided to let the Phase 1 go as I just don’t have time to drive it, and I’m not going to leave this one parked up in the garage doing nothing.

It’s number 416, a Mars Red car, in near perfect original condition having never been re-painted and having done 26400 miles. It has no modifications apart from the side pods being painted silver, which the first owner had done shortly after he bought it, and before the Phase 2 was launched.

It drives perfectly with no known faults, and has been looked after by Scott for the last couple of services. It had the cam belt service in 2014, done by Fred at BTM. It also had 4 new tyres at the same time.

There are quite a few stone chips on the front, but I prefer the originality to having the bumper re-painted. Under the bonnet / liner is absolutely mint, and the underside of the car, in the wheel arches etc., is in superb condition. The wheels are original and are in perfect condition.

The interior is completely original, with the exception of the steering wheel which has had a new cover. The whole interior is just about as new.

There are not many Phase 1 cars left that are in such good condition, on the outside, underneath and on the inside.

All the original Renault documentation, in the original aluminium chequer plate box, is present, as are all the old MOTs and invoices. Both original keys and blippers are with the car, and both work.

The next MOT is due at the end of August, and I usually take the car to Scott to get it serviced and MOT’d at the same time. The car is currently SORN’d after being laid up over winter, but I will be taxing it in a couple of weeks, at the end of June.

I’m looking for a price in line with the club’s valuations for a ‘very good / low miles - £25k +’ (see insurance section). It wouldn’t be difficult or cost much to take this up to the next level of ‘Concourse’ if wanted. The second owner, who had the car for 8 years, cleaned and polished the car most weekends whilst he had it, and that work still shows on the car..

Update August 2017. The car is back on the road and running perfectly.

The photos are of the car from when I first bought it in Jan 2015. Nothing has changed.

[v6plaque]416[/v6plaque] was a great buy, and will continue to be for whoever who takes it on :approve:

Good luck with the sale Mark. You going to hang on to the LY Vee?

This surely is way to cheap !? Are the club valuations up to date ? Duncan

Certainly keeping the LY Dulan, mainly because of the colour and the mods, but it's also a wee bit easier to drive in traffic than the Phase 1 due to the clutch. I actually prefer driving the Phase 1 due to it's sharp response, but due to a knackered ankle from an old motorbike injury, I'm just not using it very much. The supercharged (auto) Jag convertible is used mainly, then when the old ankle is up to it, a Vee gets driven.

As for prices, when I put it on the 'normal' sites in a couple of weeks it will go on for £26k ono. I thought I'd put it at the club valuation to see if any of you guys wanted it first.

I've updated them slightly (hadn't been done in a few months), but I'm not aware on any phase ones selling in the U.K. for more than 25k.

Phase 2s are commanding much more money at the moment and over priced phase ones are simply not selling.

I actually had the same thought.

Here is one for comparison:

That is a lovely example but it's been for sale since last year so it looks like the price has to be under £25k for a phase 1 unless it is under 10k miles? The gap between a phase 1 and 2 was £5k three years ago when the prices where half the current level so it's not unreasonable to think the gap is bigger now as most "collectors " want as late a model and low mileage as possible.

Knew you'd be on the case Duncan, awsome work ! I just get carried away seeing the advertised prices ! But nice car nice colour will be a bargain for someone.

To be honest Phil I don't mind if it does! I don't need the space, but it just doesn't feel right just having the car sit there doing nothing. It really is 100% sorted, but I know from experience with other cars, leave them standing for 2 or 3 or 4 years, and they start to play up. The car is too good for that !

Well if you need a volunteer to thrash it about for a bit, you know, i'll throw myself on the sword :salut:

What a kind offer Dave! Did you sit in it when you came over? Just wondered if there was more room for you in the standard seats or the Tredlines fitted to the LY.

I sat in the LY, same seats mine has and the legroom is...well... picture screwing up a couple of pipe cleaners! Thats my legs :)

Tony from Derby kindly lent me a Recaro Pole Position with Subframe to try, I fitted that and it's worlds better so i'm going to have to go for a pair of these I think if I want to drive it for any more than about 50 miles at a time! Im amazed how much thinner the seat is and how that affects available space. I still have more space behind to go back to the bulkhead too, so when I do secure a pair of my own I will mod the subframes to sit the seat further back on the mounts to maximise space.

Good stuff Dave. I've let quite a few nice old classics go because I didn't fit in them very well, so it really is important to get it right. One of the great joys for me is that the Vee, with standard seats or Tredlines, is really comfy. Amazing really for someone of 6ft 5inches in a mid-engine small car.

Hi Mark, is this still for sale?

I was pointed in your direction on my intro thread.

Unable to do anything currently as my current car is officially going up for sale tomorrow, hopefully won't hang around for too long!

Yes it is, but I think you're sorted now! I haven't advertised the car yet, and since getting it back on the road this month after it's (rather long) winter break, I'm not sure that I'm going to!!
