Ph1 Panel removal.

Brett

Who's done it? Any tips? Now that ORS is over, I'm pretty keen in getting on with my car once again. As most will know, the car has already received a coat of paint but it's going back to its original colour now and I want it minter than mint. Because of this I want to remove ALL panels not just the front wings and bumpers and remove any sign of Nocturne. I have zero idea how to get the rear quarters off so any help would be great.

Think they're fully bonded on Brett - I think it would be brown pants if you tried removing them mate, particularly the fact that you want them to go back on - I can see the fibreglass braking on the joins - but I could be wrong.

Hmmmm You maybe right Mossy. I was on the understanding that the ph2's were bonded on. Maybe its both. Need to check before hand for sure.

Would the previous body shop really have removed the bonded arches to paint Nocturn?

Might not need to take them off

There isn't really a need to in all honesty Matt as I know Jay who painted the car didn't. I'd just prefere the car to not be a hotchpotch of variouse paint jobs which I'm sure it will be seen as should I ever sell it. I also want to make the car as fresh as possible in places most can't/won't get to unless a full re spray and overhaul was involved. Needs to be mint and OEM+ for ORS next year. Lol

Are you thinking the phase 1's were possibly bolted on? And then sealed just around the edge? You maybe right mate and be a lot easier to remove.

I recall they only had a wee squirt of bathroom sealant near the edge. You may find a few brackets either bolted or bonded onto the real inner wing. When mine were ripped off, bits of the outer fibreglass wing remained stuck to the inner panel.

These pics show them.

My Ph1 was described as benefiting from post-production 'seam-welding' during a full-body respray.

This lead me to believe the panels would've been only bolted/bonded from TVR manufacturing process.

Phase 1 are bolted

Phase 2 are bonded

Careful someone hasnt painted the phase 1 arches when in situ, could get messy.

Yes they are indeed bolted on. The bolts are easier to get to at the moment too which is a bonus of the engine and gearbox coming in and out.

Way back in 2003. Was parked in the street, a guy rammed along the side of it ripped off all the fibreglass stuff. It was written off, but it's had many happy owners since then.
